Want to Stay Active in Your Art Community?

artistby Erica Guajardo

As an artist, one of the hardest things to do is get your artwork viewed by the public.  It seems that there is much anxiety associated with “Where and How to start?”  As a fellow artist myself, I found that it took someone inviting me to join a group of locals in order to  get established.  Although this seems like a simple idea, not all creative individuals know someone that is willing to show us the way.

Recently I was searching through the Facebook Group Page Dallas Art Openings, a group designed to announce art shows that are taking place around Dallas.   During this search I found an individual posting “…I’ve come to find myself wanting to join an art career…How could I start myself?”  This awakened a self-guided principle idea to help share with inspiring artists a way for them to get active and help grow their talents.  Below you will find three art groups, which are FREE to join and stay active in the arts.     Continue reading →

Jason Manning Has Returned… Lucky Us!

IMG_A01001aby Angela Hopkins

Originally from Corsicana, Texas, and a graduate from Texas A&M, Jason Manning planted his roots in Fort Worth, now calling the Magnolia Area home. We will use the word “home” lightly, because Jason travels all over the States and sells out crowds with his Eagles Tribute Band, 7 Bridges. However his original music projects and collaborations with different artists, make his solo music soul encompassing.      Continue reading →

All good things are worth the wait, and for seafood lovers in East Dallas this never rang truer than for 20 Feet Seafood Joint owned and operated by Marc Cassel and his lovely chef-partner Susan Fries, to whom he is engaged. The tiny restaurant located next to two East Dallas sweethearts, Good 2 Go Taco and Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House has already made quite the splash with local residents and foodmongers. There is a good reason why, the food is delicious and very affordable.       Continue reading →

‘The Taste’ Has A Little Less Flavor Without Uno

IMG_1487by Steven Doyle        photos by James Gates

Last night on the latest edition of The Taste, local chef Uno Immanivong was booted from the program. I do not normally report on television and reality programs, but Dallas had a vested interest in seeing this particular chef win the big prize. We certainly cannot depend on the Cowboys for bringing home the honors. However, our local chefs seem to fare rather well on television, and Uno took the news in stride and now focuses on her new Trinity Groves restaurant, Chino, which should be open in a matter of a few short months.

Last night I stopped by the Sunset Lounge where the chef gathered a large handful of people to watch the program. This took a certain amount of grace knowing that within an hour the news of her demise would be revealed, but it was fitting to be surrounded by her Chino business partner and the rest of her long-time friends.        Continue reading →
