Win A Prago Roma Pasta Machine

roma pastamakerby Steven Doyle

I love making homemade pasta, and use a hand cranked pasta roller that is attached to my kitchen counter to achieve just the right thickness of dough sheets according to the style of pasta I want to make at home. Recently I was in a professional kitchen and smiled when I saw the same $25 device screwed into a counter. There are attachments for your electric mixers to make this job easier, but I have been fond of the crank method and continue to use this device.          Continue reading →

Charge Your Phone Using 200 Year Old Science And A Cup Of Coffee

onepuck1_610x516by Steven Doyle

Nearly 200 years ago Robert Stirling invented an engine that ran off air rather than fuel or steam, and retained gasses rather than emit toxic fumes into the atmosphere. Since 1816 there have been many versions used, and many in use today. A submarine employs a version of this engine originally designed by Stirling. Today there is a company called Epiphany Labs who hopes to take this engine design to charge your cell phone using your morning cup of coffee or a cold beer.   Continue reading →

Swim Into Sea Breeze For A Fantastic Seafood Selection

DSC05797by Steven Doyle

The seafood revolution in Dallas continues strong and we are particularly happy to see this strong trend continue to grow. With more restaurants sourcing amazing oysters from all coastal waters in the US, the selection has never been greater. Many restaurants can serve up fish selections like tilapia and salmon, but these can be the most uninteresting selections when so much more is being brought into our city.

One of the bright stars in this trend is Sea Breeze in Plano. What started as a small market and an even smaller restaurant with counter service, Sea Breeze recently expanded to a full-sized concern with table service and even more room for fresh fish to take home.   Continue reading →

20130224_172559by Steven Doyle

Recently the guys at Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House updated their menu adding new starters, sandwiches and burgers. The fresh new take on the elevated bar food has not gone unnoticed and the items we have sampled were incredible.

Chefs Jeana Johnson and Colleen O’Hare, who are actually owners of the neighboring Good 2 Go Taco, are the geniuses behind the food at Goodfriend. It is in their kitchen all the food is created and passed through to the wait staff for delivery. This symbiosis is genius and we all benefit from the skills of the chefs.   Continue reading →
