DSC06082by Steven Doyle

Look for the new reservation bar that is attached to the space that will soon become the Establishment to open this week. Brian Williams and Michael Martensen both hosted a sneak preview for friends and family this past Friday evening, and we were able to get a glimpse of the bar.

Currently the bar has no name and Martensen said they are still tweaking the logo. Rumor has it that the space might be named Bar Smyth, but that could change.     Continue reading →

La Reve To Open Pozo Mercado In St John’s Wood Space

mercadoby Steven Doyle

From the guys at Sfuzzi and Standard Pour (La Reve Consultants) look for a new hot spot to open on McKinney in Uptown Dallas called Pozo Mercado . If you look in at the old St John’s Wood spot at 2908 Mckinney you will see that they are doing some fast work on the restaurant/ bar. The food will be farm-to-table, but not your normal fare. One of the terms I heard was Fresh Mex, but the terminology may change. Regardless, look for some fashion of Mexican food in the new spot.    Continue reading →

Max’s Wine Dive Has Killer Cinnamon Rolls

DSC05822by Steven Doyle

A sweet note to end this long work week. If you have not tried the brunch at Max’s Wine Dive, it is worth an investigation. There are plenty of things to choose from that are uniquely Max’s such as the Chicken Fried Steak and Waffles or the Waygu Steak and Eggs, but one thing you must order are their cinnamon rolls.

The cinnamon rolls at Max’s come three to an order and are laced with a royal icing and are as flaky and tender as a roll could be.

The fresh juice mimosas are pretty special as well.

What Is The Detroit Chili At Pop Diner?

DSC05862by Steven Doyle

Pop Diner is this new and over-the-top 24-hour diner in Uptown Dallas. One of the last tenants to fill the Borders Books location the diner serves breakfast and diner fare all through the day and in the dark stretches of the morning hours. The owner, Nik Gjonaj, is originally from Detroit where he owns a successful chain of steakhouses called Luca’s Chophouse. Detroit is where his roots are, but he now divides his time between Texas and Michigan.

Detroit has their own style of cuisine that is a different take on many items we serve in Dallas, such as the hot dog. The Michigan dog is a definite style of dog you find primarily in that state, but seldom referred to it as such. That term is used by other states to describe the steamed dog, steamed bun and a rich beefy sauce. A coney if you with chile con carne.    Continue reading →
