Dallas Chef Delivers HCG Diet Gourmet

by Steven Doyle     photos by Robert Bostick

As we all contemplate our vows for the new year many of us are looking to drop at least a few pounds. So for at least the next few weeks we will actually use the new gym membership, cut back on whatever it is we need to cut back on, and possibly look to a diet plan that might make the whole process simpler.

The diet business is a $40 billion enterprise, so there are at least a few of us looking for a simpler way to being thin and healthy.  Continue reading

Whachu Tacobot Willis? El Rincon De Villa

by Danielle Leahy       photos by Jacque Manaugh

Starting off the new year right and with street tacos on the lineup we decided to hit up El Rincon De Villa after some encouraging words and recommendations from the Tacobots Facebook page. El Rincon is a great little Mexican restaurant located off Greenville Ave and Park Lane this tiny yellow building holds a ton of great tacos. Painted a bright and cheery yellow and covered in old photos of Mexican outlaws along with hand painted Spanish sayings adorning the wall, this place was cute and comfortable from the moment we walked in.

Starting off with delicious warmed red salsa that packs the perfect punch and thin crispy chips the Bots got right down to business reviewing the taco options at El Rincon. With over seven street tacos available there are plenty of choices for everyone at El Rincon.        Continue reading

Hotel ZaZa Sunday School Brunch This Weekend

by Steven Doyle              photos by Robert Bostick

We are asked about the Sunday School Brunch at Hotel ZaZa  just about more than anything we have talked about on craveDFW. We promised all those avid followers we would keep them informed of the next edition.

If you haven’t heard, the brunch is like no other. Think rave+brunch. It’s the party for those that won’t quit. The food is really cool and you get to play with sparklers while watching the dancing pandas.    Continue reading

Vegan Pizza at Urban Crust

by Steven Doyle

We have a substantial vegan and vegetarian readership so we wanted to direct you to the pizza o the month at Urban Crust in Plano. Chef Salvatore Gisellu puts out a great pie and this month is featuring a vegan selection using 100% whole wheat pizza dough and topped with sun dried tomato pesto along with a combination of wood fired vegetables including spinach, portabella mushrooms, rapini and caramelized onions. You may sub out any of the veggies if you wish.

This is a good option for all you suckers who made resolutions, too.

Patrick Henry Would’ve Loved Liberty Burger

by Steven Doyle   photos by Robert Bostick

When your paterfamilias is the legendary Gene Street who brought us such restaurants as Black Eyed Pea, Good Eats and Lucky’s, you will be forever put on notice should you ever attempt to succeed in the same industry. As the rumors turned into reality the young and insightful Mariel Street succeeded as she and her siblings opened what we are sure is just the first Liberty Burger.

Far from fast food, the burger-only restaurant is splashy and delectable. When ordering your Liberty Burger it is important to realize that all the ingredients are of the fresh-n-local variety, as is the beautifully baked bun from Empire Baking Company which is the tie that binds.            Continue reading

Crave Stuff To Enjoy While Reading Crave

by Steven Doyle

Pegasus News and FW Star Telegram food critic Teresa Gubbins sends us word that there is a new product we might want to investigate. She sent over a link to the Dallas Morning News where they actually reviewed a new breakfast cereal called Krave.

News writer Jeffrey Weiss didn’t care much for the new cereal being test marketed in North Texas, using words like ‘sawdust’ and ‘cold, fibrous mush’ to describe a bowl he prepared for himself. At one point he even threw out the most oft used culinary term ‘Yuck-o’, so we are thinking the near-namesake cold cereal is not going to be high on our shopping list for the craveDFW test kitchens.   Continue reading
