Pecan Lodge DDD Episode Premiers May 28

by Steven Doyle

For those following the wanderings of Sir Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, you can catch local BBQ mavens at Pecan Lodge as their episode premiers Memorial Day, May 28, 2012. The little BBQ Mecca is located in Shed Two at the Dallas Farmers Market and serves up some remarkable brisket, sausage, burnt ends and something they call a Hot Mess, which is a divine confluence of a giant smoked sweet potato crowned with brisket.     Continue reading

Want To Own A Food Truck? We Tell You How

by Steven Doyle

This week we spent an afternoon mulling over food trucks in the Arts District of Dallas.  The many trucks lined up to sell their tacos, sliders and baked potatoes, and with the unseasonably beautiful weather hoards of people crept from the towers of downtown to enjoy a leisurely stroll and a fond repast.

We were joined by Natalie Roffino of US Food Trucks who has played a great role in the Dallas culinary scene for some time now. She has been the junior director for the Texas Chef’s Association for the past three years.     Continue reading

Private|Social Special Luncheon With Chef Tiffany Derry

by Joy Jangles

Before my husband canceled cable on me so I’d stop wasting my life watching endless episodes of Real Housewives and any other soul sucking shows on Bravo, I was an avid fan of Top Chef.  To this day, my favorite contestant has always been Chef Tiffany Derry.  Maybe it was her infectious laugh, or the fact that she was such a genuinely nice person, or how she always cooked with soul and never tried to be something she wasn’t.  She was confident about who she was, always helpful to others, and the fact that she owned the kitchen better than most men out there – it’s easy to see why she’s my favorite.                Continue reading

Urban Epicurious Top 10 Food Porn Moments: Lockhart Smoke House

by Bev Garvin

Bev Garvin is a friend of craveDFW, a local social media buff and photographer who maintains a pretty cool local site called Urban Epicurious. Bev joins us to celebrate her top 10 favorite food porn moments of the recent past. We will run these over successive days so you may savor each bite

Sometimes you just crave something that’s nice, big, thick, juicy, smoky, and satisfying. And when you do, the nice folks at Lockhart Smoke House in Bishop Arts have just the thing – meat, and lots of it. This quaint neighborhood shop isn’t pretentious or fancy. When you walk in you’ll order at the butcher counter in the back, pay for your food and take it to your table. There are no forks, there is no sauce, their ribs are dry rubbed, smoked, served on butcher paper and sold by the 1/2 pound.   Continue reading

by Steven Doyle  photos by Robert Bostick

Earlier this week we introduced you to chef David Anthony Temple (DAT) who will be opening up the Mason Bar at the end of January. Temple will not be cooking alone and has brought in an inspiring chef that has cooked with both Kent Rathbun and Richard Blais. His demeanor is cool handed, and his cooking is inspirational. Dallas is most fortunate to have Cable Smith who will open as chef de cuisine at Mason Bar.

Please meet Cable Smith.          Continue reading

2012 Dive Bar Tour Rolls Through Dallas

by Steven Doyle     photos by Robert Bostick

Planning the latest Dallas Bus Tour was a blast. Previous editions included tours that explored Tacos, Pizza, Burgers, and even vegan food in Dallas. The trick behind a successful tour I am finding is not to over think the process. Load up 25 adults onto a bus full of beer, wine and cocktails and point them in any direction and they will have fun.

Such is the case for the latest tour which explored dive bars of Dallas. Now here might be the rub for some, what exactly is a dive bar? I have my definition, you have yours. However, for the first tour exploring almost only alcohol I wanted to play it safe. No stabbings, no arrests, no crying.            Continue reading

Hey Grandpa, What’s for Supper?

by Steven Doyle

Each week we are beating the streets in search of the perfect breakfast, lunch or dinner. We share our positive experiences with you in hopes that you might enjoy these as well. We get plenty of feedback about particular features of craveDFW, and one of the more compelling requests is that we continue the What’s for Supper ditty we toss up when we have an abundance of food photos without a full story. We can assure you, this hasn’t gone away.    Continue reading
