Dallas BBQ Tour Was A Meaty Success

by Steven Doyle

Each weekend I lead several tours across Dallas searching for the perfect bites. Most weekends the tours are chocolate themed as they seem to be the most popular. Although I have been leading food tours for several years now in the Dallas area, the thought of doing these professionally, even on a part time basis, seemed odd at best. Were there really that many people willing to give up their Saturday or Sunday to check out a handful of unusual foodie spots around town?   Continue reading

Pecan Lodge Has Insane Weekend And Joins Our Top Five List For BBQ In Dallas

By Steven Doyle

Pecan Lodge has been one of our go-to spots for BBQ in Dallas since their debut at the Dallas Farmers Market. Owned by Diane and Justin Fourton, the duo has been busy making their mark on the BBQ landscape one rib at a time. And damn are those ribs tasty.

Recently the Fourton’s were featured on the Food Network slice of insanity, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. Not sure if this little restaurant that is located in the Market’s Shed Two qualifies as a dive or a diner, it certainly isn’t a drive-in. Regardless, the program made a huge impact on the young business.           Continue reading

Kenny Bowers Checks Out The Memphis World Championship BBQ Cook-Off

by Kenny Bowers

When we caught wind that Kenny Bowers was traveling to the  BBQ Cook-Off in Memphis we clamored to have him send us the details.  Kenny, who is the chef-owner of Kenny’s Woodfire Grill, Kenny’s Italian and Kenny’s Burger Joint did one step better and penned a fun look at his week of competition and BBQ.

As a kid growing up in Boston, when someone said BBQ we thought hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill; Texas was my BBQ culture shock.

The southern culture thrives off BBQ and Memphis is a big driving force in how to do it right.  Every year, a month long festival takes over Memphis, TN.  The appropriately named, Memphis in May consists of four main events:

  • The Beale Street Music Festival
  • International Week
  • Sunset Symphony
  • Most importantly, the BBQ Cooking Contest           Continue reading

Katy Trail Ice House Has Awesome Barbecue

by Steven Doyle

We recently ran across Jimmy Fell, the general manager over at the Katy Trail Ice House. You will know Fell most recently from Red Dog Right in Grapevine, but most prominently when he worked for Jim “Sevy” Severson at his namesake restaurant on Preston. Fell was excited to talk about the latest addition to the menu at the Ice House, and how it has drastically improved not only the cuisine but what can be long wait times for the food to arrive at your table.

Enter a giant behemoth of a smoker that is a bit displaced for the moment while the owners build a shed complete with its own exhaust system on the property. Until then, the smoker is located about a block away in a parking lot owned by Katy Trail Ice House.         Continue reading
