A Short Trip To Spain With Si Tapas

by Steven Doyle

We love our tapas, and probably and remain a bit disappointed that the term is becoming a diluted with the use for anything small. Small plates does not equal tapas. Tapas are these marvelous plated dishes from Spain, and are basically snacks and small meals. Since dinner can be served as late as midnight in Spain, you might find yourself bar hopping and sampling a few items from an array of tapas the bar has on hand that evening.

Most likely you will be served several styles of olives, breads, a bit of slow cooked beef, battered squid, sausages or a tortilla de patatas. The more you drink the better the tapas become.

We do have lovely tapas in Dallas, and very much with traditional recipes. Not free mind you. but delicious none the less. This week we checked into Si Tapas. Continue reading

The Texas Rangers Have Their Own Food Truck!

DSC06777by Steven Doyle

One of my very favorite holidays is close at hand. No, not Easter. Opening Day of baseball is one of the last vestiges of Americana and well worth taking a day off with the family to take in tradition. In preparation for the big day the good folks at the Ballpark at Arlington, home to the Texas Rangers, spent the off season sprucing up to make your experience even greater. Dosas And Toys This Weekend In Deep Ellum

DSC04249by Steven Doyle

Last night the Dosa food truck made its debut at the Sprouts on Henderson. I tried the Paper Masala that was filled with potato,  and it was the best thing I put in my mouth in a very long time. The very large portioned crepe is crispy and wafer thin, much thinner than the other dosas found on the menu.

The plate comes with a cup of dal soup, or sambar, and also two chutneys. One of the chutneys is a bit spicy, the other is cooler with a hint of coconut. This dosa and its sides are 100% vegan and 100% tasty.   Continue reading
