A Visit To Polk-A-Dot Bakery

I had a chance to stop into the Polk-A-Dot Bakery this weekend and found some pretty marvelous goods being offered at this one year old business. The very quaint bakery is located in Addison Circle served breakfast and lunch, but is open most nights until 9pm, offering their guests spectacular coffees and free wifi on into the night.

The new owner Nicole Margulies can be found tending to details and a certain happiness quotient exudes as her patrons snapped up all the fresh cookies, brownies and cupcakes she has to offer.     Continue reading →

The Social House: Badass Onion Soup

We’re an odd pair, The Social House and I.

I’m a jazz singer who prefers soft music – or none at all – when I dine. The Social House is LOUD and favors a mix of rock music that sometimes veers into hip hop.

A twenty-five year veteran food critic and food snob from both the East and West Coasts, I’m usually not drawn to happy hour and party-style hangouts. Not anymore, anyway – although I will confess to having been at the opening night of the notorious nightclub Arthur in the 1970’s, the one in Manhattan that was co-owned by Beatle George Harrison, not to be confused with quaint antiquity Arthur’s Prime Steakhouse on Quorum Drive.  Continue reading →

DaLat Soft Opening April 18

Friend of craveDFW and bridge keeper over at the blog Chomp!, Irene Huang send us news that she has already sampled the pho over at the soon-to-open DaLat which is located on Fitzhugh in the former RedFork space. She has high regard for the Vietnamese soup and said that she worked up room for not one but two bowls during a preview dinner at DaLat.   Continue reading →

The Stewpot Soup’s On! 2012

Today was the annual Stewpot Soup’s On! event held this year at Union Station in Dallas and chaired by Tonya Meier with chef chair Brian Luscher of The Grape. The event benefit’s The Stewpot which offers basic resources and community support for the homeless and at-risk individuals in the Dallas area.

The Stewpot delivers dental services for up to 24 people each day, offers drug and alcohol counseling, hosts youth programs, provides voicemail services and many other essential services as well as attempting to break the cycle of poverty. The Stewpot Alliance and the Soups On! event is a major force in supporting programs that help homeless and at-risk families and individuals.     Continue reading →

Soups On! At King’s Noodles

The temperatures are still fairly high, but definitely a relief from the boiling 100+ degrees we endured this Summer. With thoughts of Fall weather in our heads we can start planning our diets to fit cooler times.

One of my favorite restaurants in the Dallas area is a tiny shop in Richardson called King’s Noodles. Spartan, tiny and often crowded, delicious are a few words to describe King’s.  Continue reading →
