rose3

Smoky Rose is a chef-driven smokehouse in a relaxed garden setting will open this winter at 8602 Garland Road in Dallas (across from The Dallas Arboretum).

The new neighborhood-dining destination aims to provide a comfortable experience with a relaxed interior, large patio, open smokehouse and beautifully landscaped garden area serving lunch and dinner. The rustically refined menu is paired with thoughtfully selected wines and local beers.

Co-owner, David Cash explains, “this has been a long, exciting road preparing for the unveiling of Smoky Rose, and I am proud of our team for working hard to craft an experience – from menu to design to service and more – that we think will be a great addition to the well-established East Dallas neighborhood.”   Continue reading →

screenshot_2016-10-09-18-36-19by Steven Doyle

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, invited about 100,000 people to his back yard in Palo Alto, California for a BBQ. You were invited if you happened to be on Facebook Sunday afternoon.

The BBQ was virtual, but a bit entertaining none the less. There were at least a few people extremely excited to see Mark’s live feed on Facebook. Namely the brands of grills and smokers he uses on a regular basis who got a huge plug, and a certain BBQ Sauce brand that will no doubt be emptied from shelves across the county, and ordered from around the world.   Continue reading →

bbq1

TMBBQ Fest 2016, Texas Monthly’s annual festival for barbecue lovers, returns to Austin for its seventh year on Sunday, October 30, 2016, from 1 to 4 p.m., with VIP entry at noon, at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets ($80 for general admission, $165 for VIP, $10 for children 5 and under) will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, at tmbbq.com.

The festival, which sells out every year, will showcase smoked delicacies from 27 of the state’s most celebrated barbecue purveyors, all of whom have been honored by the magazine’s coveted list of “The 50 Best BBQ Joints in the World!” Guests are encouraged to sample from as many BBQ vendors as their stomachs will allow, plus many sweet treats.

Shiner Beer and Legacy Whisky cocktails will be available for purchase, along with giveaways and interactive festivities by sponsors Nationwide Insurance, Texas A&M University, YETI Coolers, Central Market, and Barbecue Wife Bloody Mary Mix. The afternoon will feature live music from Santiago Jimenez Jr. and Warren Hood.

As a new addition this year, Texas Monthly debuts the TMBBQ Brisket Brunch on Saturday, October 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Juliet Ristorante (1500 Barton Springs Rd). Spotlighting TMBBQ Fest’s first-ever “Global Joint” from France, the event will feature an original BBQ brunch menu from Pitmaster Thomas Abramowicz, of the Beast of Paris, France, and Chef Jacob Weaver, of Juliet Ristorante.

Tickets are $85 each for a meaty brunch menu with cocktails included. Tickets will be on sale with TMBBQ Fest tickets starting Thursday, September 8, at 10 a.m.

As is tradition, the magazine has invited one “Newcomer” to the festival, with Evie Mae’s, of Lubbock, receiving the nod. Newcomers who quickly rocketed to the top of their field have included Freedmen’s, in Austin; Austin’s Franklin Barbecue; Pearland’s Killen’s Barbecue; and Dallas’s Pecan Lodge. New to this year’s festival, the magazine introduces a “Global Joint” with Paris’s the Beast.

“We’re thrilled to host an honored ‘Newcomer’ from Lubbock, along with a ‘Global Joint’ all the way from Paris, France! Offering readers more of what they crave, the TMBBQ Brisket Brunch will provide a one-of-a-kind up-close experience with an international pitmaster partnered with a local chef. Held on Saturday, the event will act as a ‘morning meat up’ before the TMBBQ Fest gets started on Sunday,” said John Lunn, the president of Texas Monthly.

“Thanks to an ambitious Frenchman, Thomas Abramowicz, and a few pitmaster mentors in Texas, there’s now honest-to-Texas barbecue in Paris, France. We can’t wait to host Abramowicz when he brings a taste of the Beast to Austin,” said Daniel Vaughn, the magazine’s barbecue editor.

The 2016 TMBBQ Fest featured BBQ joints include:

Austin’s BBQ and Catering (Eagle Lake); The Beast (Paris, France); The Original Black’s Barbecue (Austin); Buzzie’s Bar-B-Q (Kerrville); Cousin’s Bar-B-Q (Fort Worth); Cranky Frank’s (Fredericksburg); Evie Mae’s (Wolfforth); Franklin Barbecue (Austin); Freedmen’s (Austin); Gatlin’s BBQ (Houston); The Granary ’Cue & Brew (San Antonio); Hays Co. Lakewood Smokehouse Brings Great BBQ to East Dallas

lakewood1

Lakewood Smokehouse opened this month at 1901 Abrams Rd, Dallas in the space recently left vacant by Ali Baba Mediterranean Grill.  Bringing Lakewood this new BBQ concept are Partners-Owner Operators, Jason Hall (who owns 3 Stacks Smoke & Tap House in Frisco), John Pantenburg, and Mike Mullen who have been friends and co-workers in the restaurant industry for 20 years.

Lakewood Smokehouse serves classic BBQ such as brisket, smoked turkey and sausages with an array of sides like macaroni and cheese, fried okra, green beans and potato salad. Patrons to Lakewood Smokehouse can expect the same quality and delicious BBQ that has made 3 Stacks a household name in Frisco, with a few exciting additions. Eat Me: Lockhart Smokehouse Big Beef Rib

lockhartby Steven Doyle

Barbecue has to be one of the most satisfying meals a Texan could ever wish to enjoy. And nothing says barbecue like the big beef rib at Lockhart Smokehouse located in Oak Cliff (Bishop Arts) and downtown Plano. As the name would imply, it is big, it is bountiful and it is meaty.

Forget the holiday turkey, your table needs to be adorned with beefy ribs, brisket and whole smoked chickens (the latter at a bargain rate of a mere twelve bucks for an entire yard bird). Add an armload of meat-filled deviled eggs, smoked baked beans and some crunchy blue cheese slaw and you have a feast for the masses.   Continue reading →
