Austin’s Hot Luck Festival May 18-21

Hot Luck Festival announced today the chef lineup and ticketing for the live food and music event happening May 18-21 in Austin’s most beloved venues. The three-day festival is the brainchild of James Beard Award-winner Aaron Franklin, Guerilla Suit principal and Mohawk owner James Moody, and Mike Thelin, cofounder of Feast Portland. Together they have curated a Texas-sized get-together featuring world-class culinary talent and a true Austin live music experience. Lunch at Theodore

I have seen six of Wes Anderson’s eight films, so I would say that I’m a fan (and now need to go back and see the remaining two). Therefore, I was so very open to The Theodore’s magic little world in NorthPark Center. Gifted to us by the same cast of characters who brought us Smoke, Bolsa and Bolsa Mercado, Chicken Scratch, The Foundry, and Bar Belmont, The Theodore transports you from modern luxury shopping to a charming world in Wes Anderson’s mind that is also inhabited by Teddy Roosevelt.

This theme is consistently delivered everywhere, even on the menu which feels like it could have been torn from TR’s personal diary.   Continue reading →

Ivy Tavern Takes on New Chefs, New Menu

Big changes are in the works at The Ivy Tavern, as this Dallas favorite debuts a new menu, launches a Sunday dive brunch, and introduces a couple of all-star chefs into the kitchen.

The bar would like to introduce David Rodriguez as its new Executive Chef. Prior to his role at The Ivy Tavern, Chef Rodriguez held a number of Executive Chef positions—most recently at 904’s Kitchen and Cocktails in Denton, and before that, at Oak Cliff’s Urban Acres and Oddfellows. Eat Me: Kelly’s Reuben At Plano’s Kelly’s Eastside

There are some pretty tasty dining options in downtown Plano as I found out last night, beboppin’ in an out of more than a few last night. One such choice landed us at a spot called Kelly’s Eastside for one of the tastiest sandwiches we have sample in a some time. Perusing the menu, and after sampling the extremely rich crab artichoke dip, we left the selection to our bartender. We were up in the air about a burger or a sandwich. We are always on the hunt for the next best burger, so there is always that bent. And when ordering a burger we generally get it as close to plain as possible for two reasons. First, it just looks better in a photo. And second, you are able to actually taste the burger with out the addition of giant shards of avocado, or spilling in chili.  Continue reading →
