I was at dinner last night when a friend slipped me a note saying that Tiffany Derry, formerly of Private Social, was to take over the kitchen at Bowen’s Cafe Expresso. I immediately sent Derry a text, who is working in Atlanta for a few days, and she confirmed that she was doing some consulting work for Italian kitchen. We agreed to chat on Wednesday, but today she made an announcement on Facebook, where all the really cool cheffy information comes from it would seem. Continue reading

Derry Leaves Private Social, Natera Joins Marquee
There has been some crazy in the air the past few weeks. I have been getting notes from all sorts of industry people the last ten days or so stating that Tiffany Derry was leaving Private Social. When I finally sent a note to the restaurant’s publicist it wasn’t more than two hours later I read about the news on the Eats Blog. We wish Tiffany the very best as she works out her new routine.
I think Tiffany is one classy cookie who can cook like no one else, and it will be interesting to see what she does next. I do recall her telling me about her own television program that was possibly in the works.
If the rumor mill is even close to being correct there is more afoot at Private Social that should extremely interesting. Continue reading

Tiffany Derry Celebrates Anniversary Of Private|Social
Tiffany Derry is celebrating her first anniversary with her restaurant Private|Social, and to kick off the festivities she has revamped her Social menu to include shared plates (we love them) which includes Korean BBQ Short Ribs with Sweet and Spicy Pickled Cucumbers; Shishito Peppers with Korean Spices, and Sesame Seeds; and Lamb Meatballs with Spicy Marinara Sauce, Goat Cheese and Crusty Bread.
“We’ve had a great first year. To mark the occasion, I wanted to shake things up a bit with the Social menu,” says Derry. “I wanted to keep it approachable by offering affordable shared and large plates.” Continue reading

ABC’s Carla Hall: Today’s Martha Stewart
by Judy Chamberlain photos by Robert Bostick
Carla Hall is the new Martha Stewart. The Top Chef All Star and co-host of ABC’s wildly successful The Chew, has been – like Stewart – a model and finance professional. Stewart was a stockbroker; Hall was an accountant. Both traded careers in business for food and media situations. As beautiful inside as she is to look at, Hall takes America’s love affair with food and chefs over the top. Continue reading

Angelo Sosa On His New Book, Top Chef, And How To Make The Best Burger In The Country
I ran into Angelo Sosa this week having dinner with Private Social’s Tiffany Derry and her husband at Village Marquee. Sosa is a fellow Top Chef alumnus and was featured in season 7, the same as Tiffany. He also made it to the Top Chef Masters.
Sosa owns several restaurants in New York including Social Eatz and Añejo Tequileria in Hell’s Kitchen. I had a chance the next day to sit down with the chef to chat about his career and his new photo heavy cookbook. Continue reading
