Stay Calm and Eat a Steak at Chamberlain’s Tonight

chamberlainby Steven Doyle

Richard Chamberlain is one of the most affable chefs around. If there was a disaster you would want to share an underground shelter with the man. Yu would be assured a calm, special dinner while you waited out whatever was afoot.

Today when everyone was buzzing about his Addison Steakhouse, Chamberlain’s Steak and Chop, thinking it had burned down the chef calmly turned to social media to set the facts straight.   Continue reading →

Javier’s Is Still El Jefe

by Steven Doyle

There are certain spots in Dallas that belong in a category that is beyond critique. These institutions are engrained in every lifelong Dallasite and should be revered much like that wise, elderly uncle who spins wise about his first love. Every city has such restaurants, and we have ours in North Texas that are enveloped in a flag of taste memories.

The first bite into a postage stamp-sized slice of Campisi’s pizza can fulfill such a memory for many. Forget the fact the mushrooms are most likely not organic and the sausage wasn’t made at Jimmy’s Food Store. You won’t find lithe slivers of handmade charcuterie on the pizza, and that is okay.   This is the classic stuff made famous by the likes of Jack Ruby. Who are we to argue? Continue reading →

Baboush Still Going Strong (And How About Those Tasty Cocktails)

interiorby Joey Stewart

When Baboush opened way back in August of 2011, it garnered good reviews and quickly became a popular spot. We hoped it would succeed, but in the ever-changing West Village arena, you never know. We’re glad to report that with over five years behind them, Baboush stays solid and is still a great choice for a romantic or tasty evening out.  Continue reading →

Eat Me: The Fried Rice at DaLat

FullSizeRender11by Steven Doyle

In an uncertain world there are few things we might find comforting. The snuggles of a cute puppy, a breezy gust of cool Winter air, and certainly the steaming platter of fried rice from DaLat. The dish comes with Chinese pork sausage and shrimp. You may add a fried egg as a topper (highly suggested) and sub out the shrimp for tofu or chicken. How ever you concoct your fried rice, it will arrive at your table steaming with a slight crispness that will send you reeling.

The fried rice is a great dish to share, which opens options and further choices. Of course the pho is delicious, especially late night after a few choice cocktails. But as of late the choice has been Soup 4 The Soul which is a bowl of broth with rice instead of the requisite noodles, meatballs, pico de gallo, and a choice of chicken, beef or tofu. This is a soothing and most comforting bowl that is fantastic year round.

Haystack Burgers and Barley Open Second Location in Dallas

DSC08225by Steven Doyle

The second location for the local burger maker, Haystack Burgers and Barley opened in Dallas on Oak Lawn. You may recall our rave review of the Richardson location back in 2013. We were infatuated by the burgers, especially the chili burger and the chicken fried version. That chili on the burger makes our best of list each year, it is that good. Burger making at its finest and a great beer selection.

This is the second outpost of the popular eatery from Jenny and Kevin Galvan which debuted the original Haystack in their Richardson.   Continue reading →
