People’s Choice Award Sushi: Yutaka

by Steven Doyle

With votes for Shinsei, Sushi Sake and Tei Tei mentioned often, but there was one clear leader of the pack for this weeks People’s Choice Award for Sushi, Yutaka Sushi Bistro on McKinney Avenue in Dallas.

Dallas has plenty of wonderful sushi options, and certainly we appreciate Tei-An, the five star rated soba house in One Arts Plaza, but this is the People’s Choice and they have spoken.     Continue reading

St-Germain Cocktail Competition

by Crave Staff

St-Germain is excited to announce a new format for the 4th Annual Can-Can Classic Cocktail Competition. This year, we have partnered with Edible Communities — the award-winning magazines that celebrate quality, artisanal products, local foods, and seasonality—to provide a new twist on the competition.

St-Germain is an all-natural, artisanally crafted product, and this year we want our cocktail competition to reflect the importance of working with fresh ingredients. We are challenging you, our bartender friends, to develop an original cocktail recipe with St-Germain utilizing seasonal ingredients from your local region.  Continue reading

People’s Choice Food Truck Winner: Nammi

by Steven Doyle

The votes are in and the people have spoken. It was a hot and contested week with the People’s Choice Award for Best DFW Food Truck. There were ten times more votes for this category than any other we have done so far.

Played honorably, the various trucks sent in teams of their followers to vote and it worked well. Seems food trucks have a stronger loyalty than any other business if this non-scientific voting procedure dictates anything.    Continue reading

Internet driven trends, or memes, have been sweeping the world in viral proportions and it nearly takes a handbook to keep up with such unusual antics as planking, owling and batting. It doesn’t take long to flip through your Facebook stream to find one or more of these unusual poses on someone’s wall. It’s a trend that even the most awkward can master merely with the use of a camera phone and a willing subject.

With that said we have sought out even more unusual memes, because posing as an owl is fast becoming a dated fad.

Enter a few of these actual memes such as pillaring, which is the act of standing up-right and still. Be cautioned that death and injuries have been reported surrounding pillaring incidents. Go figure.  Continue reading

Bastille Day in Bishop Arts

by Rob Shearer   photos by Steven Doyle

Bastille on Bishop is this Thursday, July 14 from 6pm-10pm in the heart of the Bishop Arts District, and the lineup of chefs for the second annual Mussel Competition has been finalized.

It’s a great list of chefs, but sadly, defending champ David Uygur from Lucia is unable to defend his title because his uber popular restaurant has opened since he last competed and he can’t get out of the kitchen. But we do have several returning challengers as well as several new faces competing for the 2011 title.
