Just weeks ago I stopped in to dine at Ristorante Nicola on Preston Road. The promise of the new chef breathing valued life into the restaurant was at once exciting and full of promise. Owner Richard Gussoni had just imported CIA Hyde Park grad Justin Melnick to the Dallas area and I thought the restaurant was back on track from what had been a bit lackluster previous year. One On One With Monica Greene
Monica Greene has been busier than ever. On the heels of opening up her fast and casual BEE (Best Enchilada Ever) in Bishop Arts and walking away from her name sake Monica’s Aca y Alla in Deep Ellum (now Maracas Mexican Restaurant), she is days away from opening up her latest concept, Monica’s Nueva Cocina and ME Lounge at Illume on Cedar Springs.
The new Nueva Cocina is all about her latest take on the fresh flavors of Mexico City with authentic house-made moles, fresh tortillas from stone ground corn and seasonal dishes that she plans to change with the seasons. Sam’s Southern Eatery Moving Into Old Alligator Cafe Location *Update*
Since Alligator Café closed its doors at its 4416 Live Oak location the building seems to have fallen on hard times. There is a temporary security fence surrounding the place and windows have been boarded up like a crack house. This might prove difficult to lease in this condition, but that is not the case as we just spotted an “open soon” sign flying outside yesterday.
The sign announces the pending opening of Sam’s Southern Eatery, which might be easy to assume it will be similar in concept to its predecessor Alligator Café now located in Casa Linda on Garland Road. Continue reading
