Kenny’s Smoke House To Open In December At Shops Of Legacy

by Steven Doyle

We like us some Kenny Bowers. This is the mastermind behind many restaurants located in Addison and in Frisco. His Kenny’s Burger joint is the real deal, and we love the meatball at his Italian hook-up.

Back in May, Chef Kenny went on a road trip and brought us back snapshots from Memphis. Little did we know at the time that it was actually a mission to sniff out great barbecue. Now the man is ready to debut his latest restaurant, Kenny’s Smoke House which will be located in Plano, Texas.

The acclaimed chef and his business partners, Mike Hutchinson and Bob Stegall, will open Kenny’s Smoke House at The Shops of Legacy this winter.  The 2,700 square foot restaurant will showcase a variety of smoked meats as well as favorites that fans of the popular chef have come to expect.            Continue reading →

More Previews From Sēr at the Hilton Anatole

by Steven Doyle   photos by Shana Anderson

We checked out Sēr at the Hilton Anatole for their final pre-opening tasting. This is the restaurant opening October 1, 2012 and is the replacement of Nana Grill. We are happy to report that the view is still as spectacular, if not better since there will actually be more space alongside the window that overlooks a near panoramic view of the Dallas skyline.

When you enter the restaurant you will notice that the space is now more open, with little to distinguish the bar area from the actually dining room. The space flows freely as the champagne cocktails did that evening.

Cowboy Chow To Close In Roanoke, Replaced With Tacos & Avocados

by Steven Doyle

Chef Jason Boso, best known for his thriving Twisted Root Burger Company, has announced plans to open a new concept called Tacos & Avocados. The fast, casual taco restaurant will feature quality ingredients in a down scale setting, with a focus on traditional and some not so traditional Mexican flavors. The space will also include a full bar with eight tequila-infused frozen margaritas, such as ginger-peach and watermelon-mint. The concept will also feature a self-serve and honor system paleta cart in the middle of the restaurant. Just slide a dollar into the coffee can and take any flavor you like.

Could this be Boso’s next big Twisted Root?

6th Street Bar And Grill Opening In September

by Steven Doyle

New bar and grill alert for those living in uptown Dallas. Soon the weight of half pound cheeseburgers will send the uptown properties into a spiraling sinkhole as the bars nearly outnumber the residents. It’s all good, we enjoy the vast selection and know that the cream always rises to the top in a survival of the fittest sort of way.

The new restaurant is called 6th Street Bar and Grill and is located at 3005 Routh Street in the former Manhattan Pizza location.        Continue reading →

First Look: FnG Eats

by Steven Doyle

We spent the better part of the morning checking out a few new restaurants in the DFW area. One of the better finds was in Keller and run by the former chefs of Cool River, Bob Stephenson and Carlos Arevalo. Both chefs have an illustrious background; Stephenson alone has opened nearly 40 restaurants, but this would be his first to actually own.

FnG Eats is in the former City Hall restaurant space in Keller that was run by season two Top Chef contestant Otto Borisch. The space has undergone complete revamp and is now much more comfortable and easily managed by Stephenson, who said that he can see pretty much everything going on in the restaurant from any vantage point. He will be able to sauté a few veggies and seconds later greet guests as they file into the door.  And file they will. This restaurant is good.            Continue reading →

MAX’s Wine Dive Announces Dallas Team

MAX’s Wine Dive is opening in September and today has announced their staff both front of the house and in the kitchen the line-up is impressive and no doubt the Dallas outpost which will be located in uptown on McKinney across from the West Village.

MAX’s is known for their irreverent look at a wine bar, serving up Southern fried chicken and a special hot dog that should rival all the new dogs barking on the Dallas scene.             Continue reading →

Family Operated Mangiamo Opens In North Dallas

by Steven Doyle

A new restaurant just opened in the former Opa Grille location at 12827 Preston Road in north Dallas. We stopped in for a bite of lunch pizza recently to check out the new digs and speak to the owner Luigi Nicci and his family.  The restaurant has been open for two weeks and served up what might be considered typical Italian fare. You have your pizza, pastas and the ever loving eggplant parm.    Continue reading →
