In the air of Manhattan’s Little Italy chef Jay Valley has etched out a a bit of his past to share with guests who dine with him on any given night at Saint Rocco’s in Trinity Groves.

For nearly twenty years Chef Jay has been working with Phil Romano, who owns the vast culinary complex at Trinity Groves, as chef at Eatzi’s. When it came time to open something decidedly Italian it was an easy decision to bring on the chef as a working partner. The magic of the Prohibition Era is encapsulated by the words of Ernest Hemingway, who drank as well as he wrote. Hemingway’s lasting effect on the Cuban landscape made its way into the cocktails first introduced during the Prohibition Era and adopted across America after the abolition of the Volstead Act in 1933 and rum’s following explosion onto the cocktail scene. All 90 of Pie Five’s locations across the country will be pitching in for the “Dough-nate to End Childhood Hunger” campaign from Aug. 28 to Sept. 24. Guests who donate $1 to No Kid Hungry will receive $2 off their next visit. Addison Oktoberfest coincides with the opening of the 16-day festival in Munich, Germany. The original celebration began on October 10, 1810 to celebrate the royal wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxon-Hildeburghausen. Top Knot Announces August Uncommon Ramen Summer Series With Chef Philip Speer of Austin’s Bonhomie

Top Knot, the new modern American restaurant with Asian roots that features shareable plates with market ingredients and flavors from Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Japan, will host Guest Chef Philip Speer for the final installment of the summer on Monday, August 28th.         

Top Knot’s Uncommon Ramen Series started in 2015 as a limited-run guest chef pop-up. Guest reaction to the series was so positive that the restaurant launched a monthly series and christened the last Monday of the month “Uncommon Ramen”. The 2017 series has seen a varied roster of guest chefs, from Hai’s own Founder and Owner, Chef Tyson Cole, to BBQ legend, Aaron Franklin. Continue reading

New Restaurant Hookline to open Fall 2017 – Plano’s The Boardwalk

Hookline – a new concept by Del Sur Restaurant Group (Hook Line & Sinker, Urban Taco) –  is under construction with plans to open Fall 2017 at The Boardwalk at Granite Park in Plano, Texas. Executive Chef Aaron Nelson will be running the kitchen.

The new restaurant is a full-service/chef-driven evolution of the 21-year old “sister restaurant”, Hook Line & Sinker. Hookline will still offer some of the Hook Line & Sinker classics but the menu, design, atmosphere and branding have all been elevated through a collaborative effort with Del Sur partners and Austin-based design and branding firm, FÖDA Studio (South Congress Hotel, June’s All Day, The Preacher’s Son, Top Knot).  Continue reading

Chef and Menu Changes at Independent Bar & Kitchen in Deep Ellum

Deep Ellum’s Independent Bar & Kitchen announced some fun changes as the fall season approaches.

The kitchen is now led by up-and-coming 23 year old, female Chef Gaby Hernandez. Gaby has been with IBK since their opening in April 2016. With a history focused mainly as a pastry chef, Gaby is now entering the savory world. The IBK menu will still feature her sweet pastries, cookies, and house made breads and rolls.  Continue reading

East Dallas Hello Dumpling Opens August 23rd

Dallas is set to experience a new level of dumplings which leaves us ecstatic. In the East Dallas space formerly occupied by Good 2 Go Taco comes Hello Dumpling, an Asian restaurant specializing in dumplings with an adjacent tea salon.

Owned by a second-generation Chinese American June Chow she tells us, There will be a rotating menu of dumplings each month and I want to make something tasty and affordable”.  Continue reading
