Nature’s Plate Opening Second Location

Nature’s Plate, the go-to vegan eatery in Lake Highlands is opening a second location  at Preston Forest Square (11811 Preston Road) in the NW quadrant next to Run On.  The plant-based offerings concept with grab and and go offerings is expected to open December 2017.

Owned and operated by sisters Annette Baker and Marianne Lacko, Nature’s Plate started as a small business venture in 2011 and quickly  expanded to a storefront and kitchen in East Dallas offering meals, snacks and smoothies to-go and in weekly meal plans. The new location will offer a variety of grab and go options 7 days a week as well as a north Dallas option for meal plan pick up.  Continue reading

Grilln Villain Chef Steve McHugh and Chef Graham Dodds Collaborate in Pop-Up Deliciousness

Making his debut as the Grilln Villain at a recent pop-up dinner at Nine Band Brewing Company in Allen, Chef Steve McHugh, along with Chef Graham Dodds, delivered a cleverly designed four-course, Texas inspired menu with product from sponsor 44 Farms. (You may recall we wrote on July 11th about Chef Dodds being named as the new Culinary Director of the Statler)

Chefs McHugh and Dodds partnered for the first time cooking with Chef Kent Rathbun at The Masters in Augusta, GA this year. Both men have a wry sense of humor and quickly found they worked simpatico even under less-than-perfect conditions, i.e., a field kitchen. Continue reading

The Chicks Are Hot At Fat Chicken

Fried chicken is definitely one of the hot items this year in Dallas and plenty of chefs have tossed their toque into the ring opening their own restaurants in homage to this southern staple. Enter Fat Chicken in Trinity Groves which is owned by DJ Quintanilla and Linda Mazzei who formerly ran Resto Gastro Bistro in the same location.

The 2017 Big Tex Choice Award Finalists Announced

Officials with the State Fair of Texas announced the finalists for the 13th annual Big Tex Choice Awards Wednesday morning. Past years heavy weights such as Abel Gonzales and Isaac Rousso are missing from the finalist list this year, but there are definitely some interesting gastronomic train wrecks that we will all most likely want to sample.

An Afternoon With Tiffany Derry
