Texas Department Of Agriculture Caves In To Juice Mixers On ‘Go Texan’ Rule — What Are The Lessons?

After two periods of public comment the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) released their final response to my Fall 2013 request for a rules change to abolish the current rule (that a wine carrying the Go Texan logo on its label may contain a minimum of 0% Texas grapes). 2014 Top Ten Places To Find Crawfish In Dallas

We are at a slow start for crawfish season with the untimely cold snaps that are hitting the haunts where the mudbugs hang out. The little critters aren’t wanting to come out of their roost and onto our plates, bu that just means they are getting bigger and tastier. For now we will suffer through extremely medium crawfish, and that is OK for now. We have already been scoping out the latest hot spots for the 2014 season, and we have plenty to share. Notice a few newcomers on the list this year that will excite your palates with their rendition of the spicy crustaceans.

Highland Park Village Loses Two Restaurants And A Bar

Rumors have been flying recently about the Village Kitchen, Toko V and Village Bar closing, and I just received confirmation from partner Mark Hearl that they have reached an agreement with the owners of Highland Park Village to close the restaurant at the end of this month.

“It just made sense to go forward with this decision. We wanted to wait to announce this so employees may transition into another position,” said Hearl via telephone moments ago.    Continue reading

DMA Announces “Savor the Arts Light Night Dinner Inspired by the Collection”

Texas Wines Take a Leading Role at Savor Dallas This Week

Savor Dallas, the largest food and wine event on the Dallas calendar, rolls into life this week with events every day from Thursday thru Sunday. For the first time in the history of the event, Texas wine plays a big role in the program.

Genaro’s Offers Excellent Mix Of Yucatan-Style Seafood

On our adventure to fined excellent seafood in Dallas during this time of Lent, we found a restaurant that is steeped up in seafood.  Although not a traditional seafood restaurant, Genaro’s opened for business in November of 2013 and serves up a healthy amount of seafood with traditional Yucatan and Tex Mex-style offerings. The restaurant is owned and operated by Chef Genaro Silva. You may know Silva from such restaurants as Genaro’s Tropical, Moctezuma’s, Garmo’s which he operated as far back as the 1980’s. They also had the bent towards fresh seafood.

The Greek In One Arts Plaza Shuttered

The Greek at One Arts Plaza hosted its final dinner service on the evening of March 14th. A restaurant concept sharing the same amazing flavors as Ziziki’s Restaurants, The Greek shared an adventuresome menu and edgier décor with patrons dining at One Arts Plaza.

“We are sorry to see The Greek go. What a wonderful restaurant and great team,” said Lucy Burns, Partner, Billingsley Company. “We are however, looking forward to announcing a few new exciting concepts.
