Monica’s Nueva Cocina Now Open For Lunch

by Steven Doyle

Word is that Monica Greene’s new hot spot on Cedar Springs is now serving lunch. Now you have another reason to try out her Mexico City influenced cuisine that harkens back to her old Cuidad days.

Check out our interview with Monica last month just before the opening to see what the hubbub is all about.

Monica’s Nueva Cocina is located at 4123 Cedar Springs in Dallas.

Quaker Steak and Lube Opens Today

by Steven Doyle

Last night we were invited to check out the latest edition of Quaker Steak and Lube, the casual dining chain hailing from Pennsylvania that is best known for their mountains of chicken wings and sauce choices. There were sampled most of what the restaurant had to offer and had a chance to visit with the CEO, John H. Longstreet.

The chicken wings recently became famous when Travel Channel’s Man vs Food host Adam Richman tackled the Triple Atomic challenge by devouring wings sauced with a searing 500,000 Scoville rated madness. That ventures well past the Scotch Bonnet and Habanero territory, and can be quite maddening on the palate.         Continue reading →

The underground dinner will feature six courses for $70 and is BYOB as usual. We have the full menu below. From the looks of the menu it would appear that DAT picked up an immersion circulator, always a fun gadget to have in a kitchen.      Continue reading →

A Cafe Momentum Success Story

by Jayne Chobot             photos by Robert Bostick

Café Momentum hosted their latest pop-up dinner fundraiser prepared by the amazing Dallas chef Michael Ehlert. This is an exciting time for the non-profit program, with its new (and first) Executive Director, Chad Houser, having turned in his chef coat for a suit this month. With the incredible meal provided courtesy of Campo and the young, spirited, and talented gentlemen in the Café Momentum program, the flowing wine courtesy of Oak Cliff Cellars, and the intriguing conversations throughout the restaurant, guests still could not stop remarking on how much fun (and how impressive!) it was to see Chef Houser all dressed up. Guests were assured that it was not something they should get used to, however.       Continue reading →

by Steven Doyle                 photos by Joey Stewart

When we spoke to Wolfgang Puck back in February he indicated he was making great strides in making his restaurants fresher and more local. At that time Puck had already scheduled to close his flagship restaurant, Spago to retool and update to mirror these current trends.

Puck’s restaurant in Dallas, Five Sixty, is pretty special in the fact it has one amazing sushi bar that is helmed by long time Puck employee Chef Hiroyuki Fujino who serves Omakase-Style.        Continue reading →
