The Great Tomato Battle
If you had told me this time last year that I would be participating in a giant food fight and paying to do so, I would have told you that you were out of your mind. However, for some reason, when I saw the deal come up for 50% off of the inaugural Tomato Battle in Dallas, I couldn’t resist. So, Saturday afternoon, I found myself driving to Fair Park prepared for the biggest (and only) food fight in which I have ever participated. Continue reading

Fishbone Concert Review
For 25 years Fishbone has been wowing crowds around the world with their blend of punk, ska, reggae, jazz, funk and soul. Last night they rolled into Dallas for a showing of their documentary ” Everyday Sunshine” at the Texas Theatre and then a concert at Trees. Me being a long time fan could not wait for them to hot the stage, which did take some time as the sound check was longer than the opening bands entire set. Continue reading

Celebrate Your Labor Day in Dallas
Summer is coming to close, but you really wouldn’t notice by the temperatures outside. Perhaps the only indication that Fall is fast approaching are all the blinking school zone signs and talk of the Texas State Fair and all their fried offerings.
Alas, there is one last summer hurrah with a three-day weekend and we want to add to your growing list of pool parties and lake jaunts in case you wanted something different to do. Celebrate with us: Continue reading

Granada Does Honky Tonk
It’s going to be a Honky Tonk Friday night at the Granada Theater and The Double Wide. Kick off your night with some real American Country music starring Dallas’ own Eleven Hundred Springs tomorrow, August 12th at the Granada Theater. Also enjoy music from Jesse Dayton and Amanda Shires. Eleven Hundred Springs has released eight albums since their 1998 debut. Live at Adair’s Saloon, the band’s 1999 release is considered to be one of the definitive albums of the late ’90s in the Texas music scene.
The party’s not over after the concert. The next stop is The Double Wide for the official After Party. DJ Charlie Don’t Park will keep the country tunes going and don’t forget to try Mama Faye’s BBQ. Keep your Granada wristband on and enjoy the drink specials at the bar. Continue reading

Wade Bowen and Will Hoge at Granada
Last Friday night Greenville Avenue looked a little different than usual– cowboys boots and starched jeans replaced the typical scene of skinny jeans and v-neck tee’s. As the herds (pun intended) filtered through the sold out, yet organized chaos of the Grenada’s front room and in to the refreshingly cool concert hall (the Grenada wasn’t lying about their renovated A/C) to find the soulful sounds of Will Hoge; a surprising opening act for the classic Texas country artist Wade Bowen, since Hoge had opened at Grenada 4-years prior with the Avett Brothers. However, don’t disregard Mr. Hoge just yet, if you are looking for an artist that has that American guitar sound like the great Tom Petty then you may want to perk up. Continue reading
