Omar Flores Pop Up At Urbano Cafe Sept 25th

omar-floresby Steven Doyle

Missing Omar Flores at Casa Rubia in Trinity Groves? He is frying chicken and rolling biscuits at his restaurant Whistlebritches, soon to open a second version of this southern-style restaurant. But you may try some of his headier cuisine, the stuff James Beard has shown him love once again for, at an upcoming dinner in the old digs commonly referred to as Tom Spicer’s Garden behind Urbano Cafe. How Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin Make A Burger

dean and frankby Steven Doyle

We are not exactly sure if these burger recipes are legit, but we found them extremely entertaining.  For those who prefer not to see salty language, you may not want to click further.  Kudos to any restaurant that decides to add these to their menu.  Continue reading

First Look: Sachet

sachet kitchenby Steven Doyle        photos by Joey Stewart

From the restaurateurs who brought our favorite restaurant in Dallas on Henderson, Gemma, comes their long awaited Mediterranean send up, Sachet.  Menu items include lamb, seafood, poultry, house-made pastas, legumes and grains, salads, and more than 20 vegetable-based meze, or starters, sourced from the best seasonal ingredients.

Chef-owner Stephen Rogers suggests that the menu little exotic but still approachable with plenty of vegetables, no butter or cream (olive oil instead), and much like he cooks at home for his own family.  Continue reading

SusieCakes Opening Saturday, Sept 23 with Grand Opening Celebration in FW’s Westbend

susiecakes_marple_167

SusieCakes’ Founder, Susan Sarich, grew up in Chicago where she was called Susie by her two beloved grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline. Every day Susie would come home from school to enjoy her grandmothers’ company over a glass of milk and a fresh baked treat. This daily baking ritual and special time together in the kitchen left a lasting impression.

When Susie grew up to become Susan and moved to the West Coast, she brought along her grandmothers’ carefully recorded recipes on handwritten 4×6 cards. The pure and simple connection those recipes fostered helped Susan form SusieCakes bakeries to share her experience with others. Through SusieCakes, Susan honors Mildred and Madeline: both in her dedication to their baking traditions, and her commitment to providing women with progressive careers in the food and hospitality industry. Wild Salsa For A Spicy Night On The Town

tamalby Steven Doyle                                                                                    carnita tamale

Wild Salsa now has three locations in the DFW area including the original downtown Dallas, Fairview, and the latest located at 300 Throckmorton in Fort Worth. This is good news for those looking for seriously good Mexican cuisine including their crazy good tacos, a tamale that will bring tears to any grown aficionado and over 100 tequilas to raise your spirits.

Our most recent visit was to the downtown Dallas location which is located at 1800 Main Street across from their sister restaurant Dallas Chop House. There we found Chef Katie who we soon discovered is not only a fantastic savory chef, but has extreme skills in the pastry department which is unusual as most chefs choose a path and excel at it. In Katie’s case she just excels.

Wild Salsa has these fresh flavors and authentic takes on Mexican not found at your local Tex Mex haunt, these dishes are serious. Look at the al pastor tacos, or perhaps the redfish sizzled ala plancha.  Continue reading
