wine poste2by Andrew Chalk

For reasons we don’t fully understand, Dallas is packed with interesting wine and food events in the next three weeks. Things could be worse. We could all be on the ‘Pyongyang Diet’. Here is a summary of some of the most interesting press releases that came across my (virtual) desk:   Continue reading

mutts1by Steven Doyle      photo by Joy Zhang

Mutt’s Canine Cantina is set to open Wednesday, June 19, 2013. If you recall, Mutt’s is a combo restaurant set in two acres of dog park. It is where you will go to chill with other like-minded pet owners and sip a cold beer while your pooch is checking out the local canine talent.

Mutts will also serve coffee, breakfast tacos, yogurt parfait and donuts for breakfast.  The full-service restaurant will serve burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer, wine and more during lunch and dinner hours. The only beef used will be naturally raised, grass-fed, with no hormones or antibiotics from Harris Farms with Nathan’s Famous 100% beef franks served as well.   Continue reading

Chef Richard Chamberlain worked his way through El Centro’s culinary program in Dallas, taking his first position in fine dining at the legendary Mansion on Turtle Creek working with the opening chef, Christian Chemin. Just a few short years later Chamberlain went on to work with Dean Fearing as sous at Agnew’s in Dallas, and a series of marvelous restaurants such as Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, Ratcliffe’s and San Simeon in Dallas, and the Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado.   Continue reading

Patrizio’s In Fort Worth Closed Again (For Good This Time)

flockby Steven Doyle

Almost forgot to mention this as we lock up the crave offices for the week. Patrizio in Fort Worth has shuttered once again. The area is plagued with high rent that hasn’t quite panned out the way many had hoped. The employees are on the losing side of this equation. Do not look for another miraculous re-open.

Inwood Tavern celebrates 49 years in business tonight. If the walls of this epic neighborhood bar could talk we would have to seek a gag order. Known for great beer, smooth cocktails and spirited conversation, Inwood has seen its share of fantastic evenings.    Continue reading

Copper River Salmon Extravaganza At Rathbun’s Was Insanely Good

DSC08261by Steven Doyle

Last evening we attended the Copper River Salmon and Alaskan Brewing Company dinner held at Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen in Preston Center. Although the restaurant was filled to capacity, chef Kent Rathbun and crew found a way to squeeze in another 60 diners to sample some of this season’s best salmon. To top this night Rathbun invited a few friends in Scott Romano (corporate chef at Nick and Sam’s) and Matt McCallister (chef-owner of FT33).   Continue reading

Recap of the Chefs for Farmers Sous Chef Competition (Video)

DSC08132by Steven Doyle

Last Sunday we enjoyed another chapter in the Chefs for Farmers series. The Sous Chef Competition is the latest to come from the team assembled by Iris and Matt McCallister who started the organization that pays homage to local farmers and ranchers, and their supporters. Each CFF event is different than the next, which I am sure gives the organizers a bit of brain strain, but their efforts pay out brilliantly.   Continue reading
