Call it doomed territory, or perhaps more like a poor choice of locations for Tex Mex in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. The neighbors on Fitzhugh aren’t going for those gooey beef enchiladas or hard shell tacos that Herrera‘s is putting out. The Fitzhugh neighborhood demands the real deal taqueria style tacos that only cost a buck. Continue reading

It’s All About The Dough
Who doesn’t love pizza?
Lucky Dallas, we’re getting to be something of a mecca for Neapolitan style pizza, that of the thin crust and chewy texture. It’s new to many, trendy and certainly different. Sicilian,Chicago, New York or even California pizza this is not.
The latest entry into the pizza a la Napolitano fray is Dough, on Preston Road. Continue reading
2nd Annual Deep Ellum Brew B-Q Tasted Pretty Damned Good
What can be a more American way to celebrate Memorial Day than to drink beer and eat barbecue? Deep Ellum Brewing Company agreed and Sunday was the 2nd annual Brew-B-Q in the new Beer Garden and they brought friends: Martin House Brewing, Armadillo Ale Works and (512). From 6-10pm, it was a mad house of samplings, food and music.
When we walked up to Deep Ellum Brewing Company, I was surprised by the line of people waiting to buy a ticket and get inside. It was at least 50 deep and the facility was already packed. This is a good sign for all of the new craft breweries opening up in North Texas. The setup was simple once inside, far right was Whole Food and barbecue and there were several stations set up throughout the garden giving samples. If you haven’t been to too many events like this, the trick is to drink while in line. Get your sample, find the next line you want to get into and socialize from there to maximize your samples. Win Dinner For Two At Del Frisco
Del Frisco is definitely a Dallas institution and they have been on our radar since the playful sommelier Jennifer Jaco started working there just over one month ago. But before Jaco’s arrival we alwayed enjoyed chatting with chef David Holben who’s home kitchen is the Dallas location on Spring Valley.
Holben has come up with a summer promotion that should bring most beef lovers into the restaurant and it is a steal. They call this the Power Couple menu and there are more than a few great choices in sides and such, but always includes a filet and crab cake. For $99. Continue reading
How Many Tamales Can A Cop Eat? Apparently 96
La Popular is known for two things: great tamales and for giving so much back to the community. I know I have ranted a few times how much chefs and restaurateurs give back to the community and charities and La Popular is definitely in this category. This past week La Popular held what they billed as their first annual tamale eating contest with a major throw down between the Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire Rescue.
