Last Week For Speakeasy 828

by Steven Doyle

As many are aware, we have personally enjoyed the pop-up speakeasy 828 that so many are wagging on about today, and for a few good reasons. First there is this dynamic charitable aspect that allows us to cocktail in comfort knowing each buck brings happiness to others.  To date, the pop-up has raised thousands for Promise House. Then there is the long wagon train of great bar peeps pouring insanely great drinks, each one attempting to top the other in a friendly fanfare of boozy bliss.

This week 828 is getting a facelift from Again and Again  while owner Leslie Pritchard is busy loading a slew of cool furnishings into the lounge. Guaranteed that will be amazing. If you spot something you like, it is all for sale with a percentage going to the charity.   Continue reading

Vegan Girl Goes Taco Truck

by Melissa Brenner

So, if you’re new or haven’t been reading my articles, you may not know that I’m a big out on the town getting my drink on fan. It’s great to be out with your friends enjoying the scene, people watching and being silly especially when the weather is as nice as it has been the past few weeks. Vegans do this, just like the omnis.

Most of my crew is a mixed bag of vegans, veggies and omnis; although I do have one or two meatatarians (seriously….they don’t eat veggies or fruit. No, I don’t know how they have survived this long, but I do know they have some serious health issues even though they are 10 years younger than me).   Continue reading

Food Truck Rally Was Sizzling Hot

by Steven Doyle   photos by Suzi Migdol

For the first Food Truck Rally to be held at the Sigel’s parking lot on Greenville Avenue in Dallas, the event went off fairly well. It was close to what we anticipated but the crowd s exceeded what the organizers at Sigel’s expected with swells up to 2,000 people hitting the lines that extended past a one hour wait.

The trucks are on the streets every day in Dallas, some for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Many understood that these tacos and fried pies could be found daily around town, but stayed in the searing 109 degree heat strictly for fun.   Continue reading

Fried Pies and Food Trucks: Bless Us Baby Jesus

by Steven Doyle

In the heat of the Rally moment, we are sincerely looking forward to what will probably be a mob scene at the Greenville Avenue Sigel’s Saturday night.

There has been plenty of tongue wagging in the blogosphere concerning the Dallas Food Truck Rally, certainly we are included in that feeding frenzy. While we have all read plenty about the many participants, little has been said about The Bomb Fried Pies. They freaking make a guacamole fried pie. That is a serious pie worth talking about.   Continue reading

Food Truck Rally and Beer Tasting

by Crave Staff

One of the most exciting developments in the restaurant world today is the emergence of the gourmet food truck. While Dallas has lagged behind other major cities around the country, it seems that the City Council has finally worked out the bugs in the system to accommodate this exciting trend. Throughout the summer Sigel’s  has hosted gourmet food trucks serving a variety of  cuisines prepared fresh by some of Dallas’ most innovative chefs.

Here is all the info you will need for the First Annual Food Truck Rally:    Continue reading

Mainstream Fish Camp Makes Debut

by Steven Doyle

The owners and operators of the large variety of food trucks are quickly making themselves known though out the DFW area, and we are making a point to check in on these new trucks as they make their way onto the scene. This past weekend we met up with the latest truck owner, Kelly Haden, who operates the new Mainstream Fish Camp truck. We had an exclusive first look at Haden’s operation.

If Haden’s name sounds familiar, it should. His family owned TJ’s Seafood located at Preston and Forest before selling off their interests to the Alexis family, and more recently owned Mainstream Fish House at the same intersection opening in 1995. Later Haden sold the fish house to M Crowd in 2004 awhich the group closed in January of 2009.     Continue reading
