With roots hailing from Texas BBQ mecca, Lockhart, Texas, Terry Black’s has this amazing history in smoked meats which scream Texas.

We had the fortune to speak to the Black twins recently, giving us some insight into what is being served in the fairly new 10,000 square feet digs located in Deep Ellum, in the heart of Dallas. Twin pit-master brothers Mark and Michael Black run operations will skills that transcend generations. Continue reading

A Fortunate Feast: Lavendou Bistro Provençal

Paschalby Steven Doyle  photos by Joey Stewart

A visit to a French restaurant in Dallas is certainly an experience when you realize how few of them there are in this area. Fortunately, Lavendou Bistro Provençal is one of the very best, owned and operated by one of the most amazing hosts our city has today – Pascal Cayet.

Pascal’s first job was at Tour d’Argent in Paris, overlooking Notre Dame Cathedral and arrived in Dallas in the 1980’s where he was one of the innovators for French cuisine. He was founder and owner of the famous French Country restaurant Chez Gerard on McKinney Avenue, which was one of Stanley Marcus’ favorite restaurants. It was during a period of growth that Pascal moved his restaurant north, and then it was very far north, to his location on Preston near George Bush. Thus the birth of Lavendou, this slice of France located in a cozy shopping center.

CraveDFW Happy Hour November 4th!

CraveDFW has been running for a dozen years bringing you exciting event news, concerts, great restaurants and more. This is exactly what we planned that many years ago as we sat in a taco shop devising the name and what CraveDFW should be all about. We wanted the reviews to reflect a certain positive note, and they have. We only write about restaurants we love, and leaving the rest for the vultures to chew on – not to say we won’t mention a dish that doesn’t quite make the grade. Millions of reads, multiple thousand stories, and plenty of dining later we outlasted most everybody. We even had a blast with our radio show and food tours.

Hors D’oeuvres and Pure Luxury at Dakota’s Steakhouse Reboot

by Joey Stewart photos by Joey Stewart

The iconic Dallas downtown steakhouse, Dakota’s, has re-opened under new ownership and chef at the helm who brings some exciting new dishes to the menu. After closing during the pandemic after a 37-year run, restaurateur Meredith McEnemy took sole ownership and brought on local chef Ji Kang to run the kitchen.

“We really wanted to keep the timeless feel of Dakota’s that people know and love but expand and add new and fresh items to appeal to many different tastes,” said Chef Ji Kang.

One of our favorite new additions is a selection of hors d’oeuvres. Diners can order as little as one or as many as they wish. Priced from $2.00-$4.50 per piece, they come out from the kitchen quickly, so if you arrive hangry they will tide you over till the apps and mains arrive. This screams champagne.

By Joey Stewart      Pictures by Joey Stewart

Wok Star Chinese, the new spot that took over the former Nazca Kitchen space at The Hill, is now open for dine-in, delivery and take-out. The menu is mainly authentic Chinese and was created by Chinese chefs, not the owners, who are American. Running the kitchen is local famed chef Charlie Zhang, who previously dazzled diners with his amazing hand pulled noddle skills at Royal China and Imperial Noodle.
