A Fortunate Feast: Lavendou Bistro Provençal

A visit to a French restaurant in Dallas is certainly an experience when you realize how few of them there are in this area. Fortunately, Lavendou Bistro Provençal is one of the very best, owned and operated by one of the most amazing hosts our city has today – Pascal Cayet.

Pascal’s first job was at Tour d’Argent in Paris, overlooking Notre Dame Cathedral and arrived in Dallas in the 1980’s where he was one of the innovators for French cuisine. He was founder and owner of the famous French Country restaurant Chez Gerard on McKinney Avenue, which was one of Stanley Marcus’ favorite restaurants. It was during a period of growth that Pascal moved his restaurant north, and then it was very far north, to his location on Preston near George Bush. Thus the birth of Lavendou, this slice of France located in a cozy shopping center.

Joy the Baker Visits Dallas

A New Orleans icon paid a visit to Dallas last month. Joy Wilson, better known as Joy the Baker, hosted a special holiday cooking demo at Williams Sonoma, where she has a line of cake mixes and breakfast mixes. Joy refers to her products as “baking lite,” due to the fact that most of the ingredients are contained within the mix packages, however, the work is still required to bring these recipes to life.

Last year, Joy launched Joy the Baker magazine after garnering a large following on her namesake blog over the previous 12 years.

Haywire and The Ranch Host Texas-Sized Holiday Brunch

Haywire Plano and The Ranch at Las Colinas are getting into the holiday spirit with a festive Sunday brunch! On Dec. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the ranch-to-table restaurants will host a special holiday brunch featuring a carving station, seafood bar, taco bar and traditional Texas plates.
