It’s no secret that we are fans of Dallas Fish Market and chef Richard Triptow. He is a master in the kitchen and hios dishes are pure art. His culinary experience had him working under three chefs at The Mansion: Dean Fearing, John Tesar, and Bruno Davaillon. “The kitchen under Fearing was a very competitive environment, and most of what I learned about seafood came from Tesar. He took me under his wing and really taught me the styles and techniques that I still use today. Bruno definitely passed along his French influence to me,” Triptow told us. Continue reading

Mike Anderson For Old School BBQ Expereince

by Steven Doyle

Mike Anderson’s BBQ is definitely one of our top BBQ haunts in the Dallas area. We know BBQ is so very subjective and everyone has their own idea of how the plate should play out, but when dining on smoked meats we have a few bits of criteria. The meat should be tender, smoky, juicy, and have some sort of interesting characteristic on the outside that compels another bite.

This sounds all so easy to create as most of us have created this in our backyards at some point. But this can be difficult for a restaurant that plays out this scenario each day with consistent regularity. Anderson’s is such a spot.   Continue reading

Celebrate Groundhog’s Day with Ground Hog

groundhog day.jpgby Steven Doyle

We at CraveDFW worked the Groundhog beat this morning, staying up all night to see if the rodent Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow at Gobbler’s Knob in Pennsylvania.

The day derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees a shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks, and if he does not, due to cloudiness, spring season will arrive early. The weather lore was brought from German-speaking areas where the badger is the forecasting animal.  Continue reading

Where To Celebrate Super Bowl LII In Dallas

sb liiby Steven Doyle

Most of the free world is looking forward to the latest edition of the Super Bowl, a rematch of 2004’s Super Bowl XXXIX, which was won by New England 24–21, Super Bowl LII is the first Super Bowl appearance for the Eagles since that game. The Patriots became the first team since the Seattle Seahawks (who made Super Bowls XLVIII and XLIX) to appear in two consecutive Super Bowls, having won Super Bowl LI in the previous season, and are also seeking to become the first team to repeat as Super Bowl victors since the Patriots themselves won Super Bowls XXXVIII and XXXIX. Philadelphia is making its third appearance in the Super Bowl, having lost Super Bowls XV and XXXIX.

What we really most concerned about is where to enjoy the game in the Dallas area. We looked for great booze prizes, food deals and free entry. Check out our short list of a few of our big choices. Continue reading
