Chop House Burger Curled Our Toes

chop5.jpgby Steven Doyle

Leading the pack of downtown burgers is none other than Chop House Burger with its beautiful glossy brioche bun, juicy medium cooked beef patty and the freshest vegetation for an absolute win. This is what a burger should look and taste like.

A burger that is far too massive loses its appeal quickly with a sloppy slide of mess, but the Chop House burger is perfectly sized to give a large bite yet remain neat and tidy. That bun is made locally from Constantine’s and the beef is am wallop of black angus for perfect quality control. Hard to miss when you begin with great ingredients.  Continue reading

Eat Me: Nordstrom’s Crab Mac and Cheese

baz2by Steven Doyle

Most probably do not consider department store dining to be all that exceptional, when in fact we have several hot restaurants tucked away in the back of some of our finer purveyors for skirts and shoes.  We have written about Neiman’s Zodiac more than a few times and they have been treating Dallasites to delicious fare for over 65 years.

Located in NorthPark Center at Nordstrom find a hot little gem called Bazille, which otherwise is known as the grill. There you will find delicious sandwiches, soups, pizzas, roasted fish, steaks and hearty pasta dishes. There are also delicate spa foods to be found for those with lighter appetites.  Continue reading

Temaki Fun at Sushi de Handroll

Ext A

by Joey Stewart

While not to the extent of the poke craze, handroll bars are becoming quite the thing on the Dallas culinary world. Riding the wave of Namo and Nori Handroll Bar comes a third introduction, Sushi De Handroll, which recently opened at The Hill at Walnut Hill and 75. The restaurant is tucked away from the street, slightly hidden in the beautiful interior courtyard on the backside of Nazca and Snooze.

Bar 1A

The space is brightly lit, especially before sunset when the sunlight can penetrate the large windows that face the courtyard. The eight-seat bar and six tables are built into and around the handroll bar, allowing the chef to deliver them immediately as they are finished to diners surrounding the bar. Continue reading

Kent Rathbun Made a Special Pizza for the Holidays

kent pizza.jpg

Thanksgiving may be over, but that doesn’t mean you’ve got to stop eating turkey. In fact, Greenville Avenue Pizza Company would argue the opposite—and then they’d partner with one of Dallas’s best chefs to put some turkey on a pizza.

Created by Chef Kent Rathbun, the Wild Turkey Pizza is topped with One90 smoked turkey, gruyére cheese, Alfredo sauce, caramelized onions, mushrooms, spinach and prosciutto, and it’s served with a side cranberry sauce. It tastes like a delicious holiday plate, but in this case, the plate is a pizza—and therefore better. Continue reading

by Steven Doyle

In 1979, the Perry family opened its first restaurant: a modest meat market in Southeast Houston called Perry’s Butcher Shop and Deli. By 1986, Chris Perry persuaded his father Bob to add dining tables, paving the way for an expansion and the opening of a second market. As the markets gained popularity, today operating as Perry & Sons Market & Grille, Chris went on to create Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in 1993. Continue reading
