Cedar Social Herradura Tequila Launch Party

cedarby Alex Gonzalez

Last Thursday, the ladies of The Cedars Social closed the restaurant down for a dinner to celebrate the launch of new cocktails featuring their new signature tequila blend. Leann Berry (bar manager and continuously named best bartender by many included CraveDFW), Monica Green (owner), and Anastacia Quinones (Rising Star Chef) traveled to Mexico to create the perfect blend. After experimenting with 240 bottles, the trifecta was able to craft the perfect double barrel reposado blend, which is now available exclusively at The Cedars Social.

The launch dinner consisted of four courses, the first of which was a plate of Enchiladas Potosinas, containing potato, cheese, onion, and Guajillo salsa. The Enchiladas were paired with a cocktail containing Herradura silver, aloe liqueur, pear and peach puree, and lime. The cocktail made for a good starter. Sweet to the point where it had a taste similar to that of white grape juice, and strong enough to set the bar for what was in store for the rest of the night. Continue reading

Cooper’s Meat Market For All Your Beefy Needs

DSC04004.JPGby Steven Doyle

A visit to the new Cooper’s Meat Market revealed so much more going on than providing giant haunches of beef for home cooks. The new addition to Sylvan Thirty also offers a variety of take and bake dishes, an excellent wine selection and other retail purchases such as Yeti coolers, but is also a 50-seat steakhouse with a full service bar.

Cooper’s is owned by Michael Johnson, whose family runs the legendary Cooper’s in San Antonio and is now an Oak Cliff resident. “I wanted to share what my family has been doing in San Antonio all these years,” offers Johnson during a recent visit, “I am excited for the community to know that we provide the very best quality meats.”

Eat Me: Ten Ramen Tonkotsu

ten tonkatsuby Steven Doyle

A mere few years back it was super exciting to see a new ramen hot spot open in Dallas because there were so few to enjoy in town. As time corrects that anomaly we have a good amount of bowls around Dallas to choose from. Ten Ramen, cheffed up by Tei An alumni Matthew Hoa. Continue reading

Restaurant Week Highlights: Adelmo’s

adelmo1by Steven Doyle

There are so many wonderful choices for Restaurant Week which began 21 years ago by Dallas’ most famous culinarian Jim White while he was working his restaurant show at KRLD. The very same Jim White who created Savor Dallas the magnificent food and wine extravaganza that grows stronger each year.

This week we wish to highlight a one of our favorite Restaurant Week choices by neighborhood starting in McKinney, Texas. Restaurant Week is a great way to become acquainted with new-to-you restaurants at a highly discounted cost with proceeds going to both the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth. 2017 proceeds were in excess of $796,000, so this is an important event for both charities who do marvelous work for our communities. Eat Me: TJ’s Yacht Club Burger

tj3by Steven Doyle

Do you feel the Earth rumbling just a tad? It could be that the annual craveDFW burger list is making its way to you very soon. The journey is long and arduous, filled with Kraft slices and pre-formed burger patties that have long expired in the depths of their freezer banks. But then there are the gems, the holy grail of burgers. Not many, maybe a dozen in toto found around our fair city. These are the burgers we hold dear, and we love to share with you month in and out. And we plan not just one list but two. One for chef driven restaurant burgers, and the other will be filled with burger only restaurants. Fun! Continue reading

Laurel Tavern Burger Is The Object Of My Affection

LMPR_LaurelTavern_Interior-05by Steven Doyle

The story sounds familiar, a few guys who own a couple of restaurants in California visit Dallas and have such an amazing time one of them decides to move here and open an outpost. This was the case for one of the owners of the very new Laurel Tavern on Lowest Greenville Avenue, home to delicious burgers and interested apps and cocktails.

First, let’s get that burger out of the way. In the land of many, many, many burgers I  can personally testify it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish one from the other, much less pick out a dozen best of the pack. In the case of Laurel Tavern they have succeeded what many have attempted in the past. In the words of Jules Winnfield, “This is a tasty burger”. And indeed it is one of my favorites now in Dallas.  Continue reading

Orno Brings Life To Cedar Springs

DSC03231by Steven Doyle

Once every so often, the stars align and the food gods shine upon us and we discover a beautiful little restaurant in an oasis all to its own where the wine pours magnificently, the cocktails are superb and the food will make your heart skip a bit with passion. Orno on Cedar Springs seems to be one of these restaurants.

Located in the Gayborhood which is oddly filled with burger options, sans the marvelous Peasant Pizzeria which just opened months ago. The finer dining options seem to have crept away from an area which should be an obvious choice for those with discriminating tastes.  Orno does fit this bill. It is not a place to shoot bad whiskey, but instead a slice of another place in another land.  Continue reading
