One of our sharp-eyed Eagle Scout readers sent word that Grub Burger Bar would be opening soon on Greenville Avenue at University Blvd. in Dallas. If you have been anywhere near Texas A&M or College Station, you know Grub to be this fantastic version of Hopdoddy (which is based in Austin coincidently) serving up freshly ground beef (in-house like Hopdoddy) and buns baked by their own little hands. To celebrate National Farmers Market Week, this weekend, Aug. 10 and 11, Chipotle will be at the Dallas Farmers Market until noon handing out $10 currency tokens redeemable for produce at the market to the first 250 market-goers who visit the Chipotle tent. Farmers then redeem the tokens to receive the full cash value, a win-win.

Kenny Checks Out Pizzeria Testa In Frisco
I finally stumbled into Pizzeria Testa in Frisco on a recent Sunday night to see what all the fuss is about. Being a skeptical New Yorker (and pizza expert, due to the thousands of slices consumed as a child) I was anxious to see what Michele D’ Amelio has created out of the two 7,000 pound Stefano Ferrara pizza ovens imported from Italy.
It’s Sunday Night in Frisco (ghost town) and this place is packed. We actually had to wait for a table. Once seated our server Allison was on the money. A true foodie and her passion for the product came through immediately. Continue reading

Capriotti Sandwich Shop Opens In Preston Center
A new Capriotti Sandwich Shop opened today in Preston Center, 6112 Luther Lane in Dallas. Look for fresh subs, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant gets high praise for their vegetarian options such as their cheesesteak and a “turkey” sandwich.
Specialty sandwiches include The Bobbie, which is their best seller made with fresh roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mayonnaise. One of our favorites includes the SlawBeJoe made with homemade roast beef, provolone, Russian dressing, and Cole slaw.
Hours are Monday through Friday from 7am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 9pm, and Sunday 8am to 7pm.

Texas Tempranillo Wines Tested
No fewer than 23 wines were involved in our taste-off
by Andrew Chalk photos by Robert Bostick
There is general agreement that Tempranillo is the red grape that has done best in Texas thus far. I decided it was time to do a comparative tasting in order to get an idea of how good Texas Tempranillo has become, and who is doing the best job with the grape. I put out an APB to every winery in Texas for their currently available Texas Tempranillos and received no fewer than 23 different wines from fifteen wineries in response. As with our earlier comparison of Texas Viognier, the tasting would be blind and the tasters would be volunteers from the Dallas sommelier community.
Seven sommeliers, plus myself, assembled at WinePoste.com in the Dallas Design District over several hours to sip and slurp our way through the wines. I excluded my scores from the results below as I was involved in the packaging of the wines into their numbered brown bags. Continue reading
