The celebrity chef series at Cane Rosso hit a grand slam last night as Aaron Franklin from the much vaunted Franklin BBQ in Austin made his appearance after a weekend at the Meat Fight event. I had put this event on my calendar as soon as the chefs lineup was announced months ago, apparently so did many others as a line began forming at 5pm an hour before opening, by 6pm the line had reached down to local watering hole Adair’s. Lockhart Smokehouse Swims With The Fishes
It’s no secret that Will Fleischman at Lockhart Smokehouse has an amazing beard, or that he is cranking out some kick-ass BBQ in Bishop Arts. He is legend for his brisket, ribs, and sausages. Mid-week Fleischman cranks out his Flintstone-sized behemoth beef ribs, and sometimes the man entertains us with his now legendary rib-jam. Not to mention the smoked and silky prime rib suitable for a fine Sunday dinner outing with the family. Continue reading

Rockwall’s Rib Rub and Run This Weekend
I believe the reason we discuss Rockwall so much on craveDFW is because there are some pretty damned good chefs doing their thing there. The boys from Ava know their meat, as does Edward Grieb from the Fatted Calf, and Chad Bowden who is the head toque at Culpepper’s. This weekend you get to see all these chefs throw down alongside many others at the 4th Annual Rib Rub and Run. We are so big on the running part, but they had us at ribs.
This is a sanctioned BBQ event, which means the winners go to compete nationally. Competitors will be smoking their best pork spare ribs, baby backs and country style ribs as well. Continue reading

3rd Annual Blues, Bandits and BBQ
It is time for the 3rd Annual Blues, Bandits and BBQ Festival Saturday, October 27, 2012. The event is open to all those who feel their meat is worthy of competition in the categories of brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, chicken and sausage. There will also be a People’s Choice Award given, so it is possible to include road kill, but event officials probably would frown upon that one.
With over $1000 in prize money and more than 30 teams expected to compete and the festival will act as the unofficial City of Dallas BBQ championship. Over 18 teams will do all their cooking onsite, and many begin smoking as early as 4pm the day before the event. Continue reading

Texas Monthly BBQ Festival 2012
by Robyn Folmar
Sunday was the 3rd annual Texas Monthly BBQ Festival in Austin. The event was packed, the weather was hot and there was more Q than any person with only one stomach could comfortably put down.
The best BBQ joints in the state were invited to serve more than 3,000 excited and sweaty meat fanatics at the beautiful Long Center for the Performing Arts. Although the event was crowded, the festival was well laid out with plenty of shade, seating, Shiner and clean, honest-to-God bathrooms. Continue reading

Cocktails At Lockhart In Bishop Arts Just Got Better
Kenneth Gonzaba is shaking things up at Lockhart Smokehouse which is located in the Bishop Arts District just across the bridge in Oak Cliff. While Will Fleischman is busy stoking the fires and knocking out some of the best ribs and brisket in North Texas, the demand for a great beer and an even better cocktail is high in demand.
Known as Kenny G to his regulars, he is keeping Lockhart competitive with the area which is known for cocktails and good food. Continue reading
Kenny’s Smoke House To Open In December At Shops Of Legacy
We like us some Kenny Bowers. This is the mastermind behind many restaurants located in Addison and in Frisco. His Kenny’s Burger joint is the real deal, and we love the meatball at his Italian hook-up.
Back in May, Chef Kenny went on a road trip and brought us back snapshots from Memphis. Little did we know at the time that it was actually a mission to sniff out great barbecue. Now the man is ready to debut his latest restaurant, Kenny’s Smoke House which will be located in Plano, Texas.
The acclaimed chef and his business partners, Mike Hutchinson and Bob Stegall, will open Kenny’s Smoke House at The Shops of Legacy this winter. The 2,700 square foot restaurant will showcase a variety of smoked meats as well as favorites that fans of the popular chef have come to expect. Continue reading
