Who Has The Best Dive Bars In The Nation?

Recently the web site The Best Colleges ran a list of the best dive bars in the country. You will be pleased to know Texas was represented twice, once in Austin for Ginny’s Little Longhorn Saloon, and the second is Dixie Chicken in College Station. By the way, Ginny’s wins our award for the worst web site design ever.

I haven’t been to either bar mentioned, but spent most of my time checking out the list of criteria to be on the list of the best dive bars. As one who takes great pride in hoisting a marginal beer in shady bars I took particular interest in what this web site felt made up a dive. I extracted some of the criteria from their list. Win The Giant Box From Ruth’s Chris

I think it is fair to say we really enjoy a good cocktail at craveDFW. Probably more so than the average human should. Imagine how we felt after receiving this huge box from Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

The staff wandered around the giant box with aplomb gazing at its wonderment, then we ravished the package like it was our first Christmas. We were hoping it was a giant haunch of beef, but to our amazement it was a set of cocktail tools. Continue reading →

Duchman Wine Tasting at The Fairmont

After dodging the $17 parking lot, a wine fan friend of mine and I giddily ventured into the Pavilion Room at The Fairmont Dallas upon an invite to experience a sample of what the Duchman Family Winery has to offer. 2012 Dive Bar Tour Rolls Through Dallas

Planning the latest Dallas Bus Tour was a blast. Previous editions included tours that explored Tacos, Pizza, Burgers, and even vegan food in Dallas. The trick behind a successful tour I am finding is not to over think the process. Load up 25 adults onto a bus full of beer, wine and cocktails and point them in any direction and they will have fun.

Such is the case for the latest tour which explored dive bars of Dallas. Now here might be the rub for some, what exactly is a dive bar? I have my definition, you have yours. However, for the first tour exploring almost only alcohol I wanted to play it safe. No stabbings, no arrests, no crying. Continue reading →
