Q&A With Bowl and Barrel’s Owner Kyle Noonan

Bowl and Barrel opened wide this past week and has already enjoyed a bit of success. The new restaurant implements a small bowling alley to combine the owners love for food and recreation. This fantastic concept is tucked away in a massive space to the rear of The Shops at Park Lane in North Dallas. Conceived and operated by Josh Sepkowitz and Kyle Noonan, both SMU grads, they decided to leave their steady 9 to 5’s to venture into the world of restaurant management.

The team has already experienced some success with many corporate holiday parties booked, the future for Bowl and Barrel seems bright. The pair have also taken duties at the newly re-opened Sunset Lounge on ross Avenue in Dallas as operating managers. Look for a few new concepts that they have rolling around in their heads, but for now enjoy the 15 world class lanes and the restaurant chef-imagined by Sharon Hage.

The family owned business opened in 1984 and has been a valued part of the community since. Boulevardier’s Bountiful Brunch

Boulevardier has enjoyed its first successful quarter as the hot, new French bistro in Bishop Arts. It is the first of several such bistros that will be opening soon, and chef-owner Nathan Tate of Restaurant Ava fame is busily cranking out some fantastic plates of pretty and bountiful bistro fare. We have enjoyed the interesting oysters brought in each week, as well as the hearty plates of lamb’s neck and bouillabaisse. The ration of fantastic starters are refreshing and thoughtful.

We like and enjoy Boulevardier, and now they went and added a Sunday brunch that beckoned us this week. Now we know Tate has mastered the egg.  Continue reading

Ruthies Rolling Cafe Announces A New Truck (Think Crepes)

Ruthie’s Rolling Cafes are a trio of food trucks that have set a new standard in roving delicacies.  The first food truck, called Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe, introduced a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich that took Dallas by storm. Offering melt in your mouth grilled cheese sandwiches to the DFW area, word spread like wildfire and Ruthie’s achieved a cult following overnight.

“We use our grandmother’s nostalgic cheesy dreamy recipes and prepare them with love in our “kitchen on wheels”, the result is Ruthie’s Rolling Café, our best idea ever,” said owner Ashlee Hunt Kleinert.     Continue reading

Grab A Grimaldi’s Pizza: Contest!

Patsy Grimaldi is a purest when it comes to pizza. Grimaldi learned the trade from his Uncle Lancieri, who trained with the man credited with opening the first pizzeria in America in 1905. Lancieri opened his own pizzeria in East Harlem in 1931, where Grimaldi started learning the art of coal brick oven pizza at the tender age of 10.

In time, Grimaldi was ready to open the first of his two pizzerias in New York. Soon the smoky taste of his coal fired brick oven pizza became a “must have” for numerous pizza lovers and celebrities alike including Frank Sinatra and former NYC Mayor Giuliani.    Continue reading

Captain Hope’s Kids Chili Cook-Off Was A Bit Unusual

Since 1994 Captain Hope’s Kids has been meeting the needs of homeless children in critical need of basic necessities. On any given night in North Texas, more than 1,100 children will fall asleep in homeless and domestic violence shelters. Sixty-six percent will be under the age of nine and thirty-one percent are infants and toddlers under the age three years.

Earlier this week I was honored to judge a chili cook-off that benefitted Captain Hope. I judge many of these types of functions and was expecting this event to be pretty much the same as any other. I was in for a bit of a surprise.    Continue reading

Addison’s WorldFest Brings Diverse Cultures To Your Back Door

WorldFest celebrates the diverse cultural communities that make up the DFW Metroplex and provides guests the opportunity to be immersed in the culture of Asia, Europe, Africa, Middle East and of course the Americas.

Many of the local ethnic clubs and organizations join in on the fun at the annual Addison festival including  Bugarian American Cultural Center “Bulgare”, Consulate General of Mexico, Council of Ghanaian Associations – DFW, DFW Asian-American Citizens Council, DFW Serbian Cultural and Education Center, Italian Club of Dallas, Maharlika Dancers, USA/La Creme Ensemble, Polish American Foundation of Texas and the Turkish American Association of Northern Texas.    Continue reading
