Dollar Oyster Domination; Sunday Nights at TJ’s

DSC04178by Melissa Robert

Ripped straight from TJ’s Fresh Seafood Market’s Sunday night Facebook post, dollar oyster domination kicked off last night to a full house. The discounts on oysters and fish tacos began at 8:30, but many arrived early, creating a buzz of excitement amidst the seafood enthusiasts. The mix of oysters included Blue Point, Barnstables and owner, Jon Alexis’ favorite, Fisher’s Island. He relayed how thankful he is to have them here since most are gobbled up by big name restaurants in the North East. He raved about the clean, sweet and briny notes of the Fisher’s Island oyster.    Continue reading

TJ’s Offers Lobster Bake At Veritas Wine Room

by Steven Doyle

No surprise that TJ’s Seafood Market does some incredible things with, well, seafood. Jon Alexis makes it his personal lot in life to ensure that you are eating your fair share of fish and other sea critters.

Alexis has been flying in some terrific species of fish as of late, and soon will have Nantucket Bay Scallops and Stone Crab (both delayed because of Sandy). However, both locations are always jammed packed with unique offerings, and we told you about the new location that offers plated food like that kick ass lobster roll we keep squawking about.    Continue reading

Sneak Peek at TJ’s New Market on Oak Lawn

by Steven Doyle

We stopped in TJ’s Seafood Market’s newest venture located on Oak Lawn next to Julian Barsotti’s Carbone’s and just feet away from Nosh. TJ’s is owned by Jon and Natlie Alexis and together they have been planning this new concept for the past three years. They will not only have great seafood with an even larger selection than their original store located on Preston at Forest Lane in North Dallas, but will also feature a 24-seat restaurant.

Alexis says he does not want to be in the restaurant business, but rather offer fresh selections culled from the new seafood cases and will be offering chef-driven menu items that will include fish tacos, lobster rolls and full plated meals. To execute the restaurant portion of the market Alexis hired chef Scott Hoffner who ws most recently executive chef at Flippin’ Out Crepes.      Continue reading

TJ’s Has Some Class At DUO

by Jon Alexis          photos by Robert Bostick

Texans – we can slow smoke a brisket to perfection. Why are we still scared of cooking seafood at home?  Take it from someone who isn’t a chef: Fish is easy. But shellfish? Even easier.

So I jumped at the opportunity to partner with Yolanda Banks for a shellfish cooking class in her series of “Fresh is Fabulous” cooking classes at DUO All Things Culinary.   Continue reading
