If Your Burger Has The Blues It Is A Good Thing

blues2.jpgby Steven Doyle

In an unlikely section of West Dallas they are making a burger that is altogether satisfying and rates high on our list of great Dallas burgers. Blues Burger is located on Mockingbird near Harry Hines where every good burger should be made, I suppose. But seriously, you will enjoy this one. Continue reading

Truluck’s Stone Crab Takedown

stonecrabby Steven Doyle

I recently wrote about the marvel that is the stone crab and all of its glory, such as heavy sustainability, deliciously sweet and dense claw meat, and it’s short fishing season which ends May 15th.

I also wrote about the hot deal that Truluck’s has on their stone crab each Monday where the claws are $79 for as many as you care to enjoy. In full disclosure I have been to truluck’s many times but never participated in the crab feast. It sounded exactly like something that would thrill me. I checked into Truluck’s last evening and guess what? It thrilled me.  Continue reading

Beau Nash For A Lovely Repast

beau1.jpegby Steven Doyle

For me Beau Nash in the late 80’s was a siren song, a sultry tune tapped out on a grand piano. The cavernous room with hideaways and a bar that left no secret untold. A perfect perch to gaze on the beautifuls that ran rampant in Dallas. The stories are best kept secret, although there is no shame. It was a time of caviar and champagne, celebrated to full contempt in a cherished manner.  Continue reading

The Unlimited Stone Crab Feast At Trulucks Worth It’s Weight In Crab

trulucks.jpgby Steven Doyle

Crab season, specifically stone crab season, is like Christmas around the Crave Offices. Stone Crab is food of the gods. And the best catch is at Truluck’s. This is what they do well.

The Stone Crab is extremely sustainable, and the fisherman only take one claw which is detachable. The crab quickly grows a new one. Those claws pack a mean punch too, able to crush up to 19,000 pounds per square inch.  Stone Crab are prolific too, laying up to a million eggs at a time. Continue reading

Tacodeli Opening In Plano Feb 22nd

IMG_0744

We recently ran a look at  Tacodeli and have never been more pleased with a lunch in a very, very long time. They are looking to expand more in the Dallas area and now have a third location scheduled for Plano. The only downside to Tacodeli is they only do breakfast and lunch. However, this is one of the interesting aspects to the restaurant and something that makes it particularly good. The employees are snap happy and it shows.  Continue reading

Niwa Brings An Authentic Yakiniku Experience To Deep Ellum

Niwa_interiorby Steven Doyle

Opening in 2016 Niwa brings true Japanese BBQ (yakiniku) to Deep Ellum on Main Street. Similar to Korean BBQ, which most of our readers might be familiar with, the Japanese have a bit more finesse.

In a Korean BBQ restaurant, you’ll usually be served with marinated meat that’s ready for grilling. It is also not uncommon for the servers to cut the meat for you using scissors and to actually grill them right in front of you. Meats on yakiniku restaurants, on the other hand, are generally not marinated when served. Instead, the cut pieces of meat are neatly served on a plate together with raw vegetables. Consider yakiniku a higher quality meal choice with better cuts of meat and ventilation system. You will not walk away smelling of grilled meats, although that could be considered a higher form of pheromone.  Continue reading

If you have not made it to the new Robert Colombo’s (Sfuzzi,  Trece, Villa-O to name a few past winners) new restaurant, Peasant Pizzeria you are missing out. The menu is simple and charming. The price point is super legitimate, and gives Cedar Springs neighborhood residents something to visit often. Open lunch, brunch (weekends) and dinner each day Peasant is a clear hit.
