Ruth’s Chris Tours Napa With Special Dinner

ruth'sby Angela Hopkins

Julie Miller, Wine Education Manager of Treasury Wine Estates delighted us with her knowledge of her portfolio including Beringer, St Clement, Etude, and Stag’s Leap at a recent wine dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Dallas. She greeted each of her guests with a smile. Her approach to the room was also comprised of interesting facts and of eye contact. While soaking in information, you really lose sight of her physically as she paints a picture worth more than a thousand words.

In a tour of the Napa Region via the sound of her voice, with intrinsic detail on the history of estates built, to fungus on dessert grapes, allowed for a virtual visual only a creative mind could absorb and appreciate. Ruth’s Chris and Julie Miller joined forces for a Tasting Dinner paired to perfection. The ambiance of Ruth’s Chris, combined with the efforts of Executive Chef, Thomas Holt explaining the prep for each course, gave way to a seamless setting. Beautiful people meeting for the first time, left with embrace and statements of “here is my number let’s get together soon.” This could only take place if the mood was properly established.      Continue reading →

Artist Meet And Greet: Kelly Jacobi And Michael McPheeters

Kelli-Jacobi-1by Erica Guajardo

Motivation tends to come from an experience that you are effected by. Not all experiences are great, but sometimes the results are life changing. I recently had the pleasure of meeting two artists that are making movements in the Dallas Metroplex. Kelly Jacobi and Michael McPheeters, these two artists are changing who gets involved with the local emerging art movement.

Kelly Jacobi is an artist who has been practicing art her whole life. With a background in graphic design, illustration, photography, and painting, there is no project that this young artist cannot tackle. About six months ago I walked into my local coffee shop to come across these eerie grim dark pieces hanging from the wall. These are things that an average person would not paint. One thing as an artist you learn is that creating comes from experience; there is always a tale to tell, you just need to learn how to illustrate it. Intrigued by these dark art pieces I contacted her to know more about the statement that she was trying to convey. Little did I know I would find a world of mystery, sorrow, and courage.

Manning the Stations

manningby Dr. Spin

After playing the role of sideman and producer for nearly a decade, Jellyfish keyboardist and songwriter Roger Joseph Manning released his solo debut in 2006. This album, The Land of Pure Imagination, showed up in the mailbox early in 2008, probably the result of a somewhat irresponsible Amazon indulgence. Of any of the releases by Jellyfish members after their breakup, it had the clearest relationship to the bittersweet, almost tragic nostalgia that that the band’s best work evoked. There were several songs that displayed his significant contribution to the Jellyfish formula, and these were real highlights for me back when I first got The Land of Pure Imagination. land yourself some pure at…

Holy Cow! Really, Cow, At Rodeo Goat

rodeo goat3by Angela Hopkins

Rodeo Goat is an emerging hot spot in Fort Worth, your new favorite ice house is tucked in the midst of all new construction in the West 7th area. Unlock the cage and cruise through the cattle door dividing the parking lot and sand pebbled covered patio. Giggle at the indoor rodeo stall (used for private parties if requested). Cozy up to family style seating with bar tables accompanying tall cushioned bar stools; you know a little class spruces up the place? I liked it already.

Calling them just burgers does not seem to do this place justice. With components and toppings such as Fresno-aioli, hatch chilies, green olive tapenade, pineapple and plantains, a variety of condiments such as herb, roasted red pepper and a smoky, orange-mayo;,all made fresh in house daily along with the hand punched fries and or chips. Wowzzza.   Continue reading →

Oak’s Austrian Inspired Wine Dinner March 24

oakby Steven Doyle

As promised, we are publishing more wine dinner information. This is the tie of year when more of these events are taking place at restaurants, and it is an ideal way to see the chef flex their culinary muscle, and also to get acquainted with unique wines.

Today we bring you a special event taking place at Oak, arguably one of the best restaurants in the Dallas area. Take note of this very unique Austrian dinner. Executive Chef Jason Maddy lived and cooked in Austria. He incorporates these experiences, along with the expertise honed while at Danube in New York, into an Austrian inspired menu that he has created for this special night.   The dinner includes nine courses for $125/paired $175 and takes place at Oak on Sunday, March 24 at 6:30pm.
