I was at dinner last night when a friend slipped me a note saying that Tiffany Derry, formerly of Private Social, was to take over the kitchen at Bowen’s Cafe Expresso. I immediately sent Derry a text, who is working in Atlanta for a few days, and she confirmed that she was doing some consulting work for Italian kitchen. We agreed to chat on Wednesday, but today she made an announcement on Facebook, where all the really cool cheffy information comes from it would seem. Continue reading

Gracious Dining At Hotel St Germain
Chef Chad Martin unveiled his spring menu at the luxe Hotel St. Germain and it’s as elegant and tasteful as you would expect from this intimate restaurant. White-gloved waiters delivered a seven-course meal starting with an ahi tuna on Champagne granita amuse bouche and ending just as beautifully with a praline mousseline and hazelnut semifreddo. Crockett Street has a DUDE!
Dude, Sweet Chocolate is going on its fourth year in DFW. My first experience was in the Avoca Coffee shop off Magnolia in FW. Most people know of the uber popular location in the Bishop Arts District, but now we can cruise over to 2925 Crockett in the West 7th area.
Pastry Chef, Katherine Clapner, having studied with Valrhona Chocolatier, entices us with her uses of dark chocolate in all her creative chocolate concoctions from truffles and fudges to soft butter toffees. Everything is handmade. She has your typical combinations with marshmallows and coffee. I was told by Adrian at the Fort Worth newly opened location, the “Crack in a Box” is a best seller. Chocolate Bark with candied salted nuts, and yes, it is in a box. Continue reading

A Fancy Waygu Burger Makes It Into Kenny’s UnFancy Burger Joint
Kenny Bower’s Frisco burger joint, aptly named Kenny’s Burger Joint, is not about the fancy. You won’t find any foie gras (snap!) but you will find some very good burgers, ribs and one bad ass Philly Cheesteak called the Steak Bomb.
With an homage to the Chris Rock scene in I’m Ginna Git You Sucka, where Rock orders a single rib, Bowers sells one rib for a dollar on Sunday nights. This would make Rock proud, but I seriously doubt that Bowers will sell a handful of soda for a dime. Continue reading

Review: JoJo Eating House
When JoJo Eating House opened for business back in November I was elated. The dishes I tried were fantastic and the menu was clean and fun. For those that read my First Look, I was particularly fond of the Artichoke and Large Lump Crab Ceviche. The fresh and simple dish made me wiggle in my seat, and go back the next evening for a second round. Alas, the artichoke salad is no more, but Chef Laurent Poupart has been busy preparing a new menu for the change of seasons that are truly spectacular.
Sadly missed was the Pastry Chef, Laurel Wimberg. She is masterful in the kitchen and at the time of the opening spoke about the possibilities of opening a store front bakery to feed JoJo. That will not happen now, and she has moved on to Lark located in Klyde Warren Park which opens today. Continue reading

Celebrate The Persian New Year At Samar By Stephan Pyles
One of my very favorite restaurants in Dallas that we do not hear a lot about in the media is Samar. This is Stephan Pyles fantastic restaurant that serves up mainly global tapas from regions such as Spain, the Mediterranean, and South America. This is the best first date restaurant as it has all the most romantic elements. You share an experience, the cuisine and the atmosphere.
A few times a year Pyles announces a celebratory dinner that is exquisite and priced perfectly so that anyone wishing to attend can easily enjoy the evening. There is one such dinner coming up soon that you wil not want to miss. Continue reading
