Meat Fight Rescue: 7 Meaty Alternatives

funny-gif-Popeye-meat-marketby Steven Doyle

Meat Fight is upon us, and it would seem every decent barbecue Generalísimo will be either working or judging the event this Sunday. You know you didn’t get a ticket, we didn’t either. Our fingers are just not fast enough to score a ticket as they sell out extremely fast. Regardless, it is a fantastic event that started as a small backyard brouhaha to raise a few bucks for National MS Society by the Observer James Beard award winning writer and Cheap Bastard, Alice Laussade. The event has raised $170,ooo since its grass roots inception for this cause. What makes Meat Fight even better is that 100% of funds raised goes to the MS research to eradicate the disease.

We know you are kicking yourself for not securing a ticket in a timely manner. Who wants to miss out on all that meatiness? We have some resolve for you. We have a list of what to do if you didn’t score a Meat Fight ticket.   Continue reading →

Untapped Rocked Dallas

Entering Untappedby Maria Mejia

With over 200 beer choices we were pleased to find the Metroplex well represented by more than 20 local breweries. In addition there were delicious food options from the likes of Common Table, Meddlesome Moth, and the particularly popular Urban Crust.  Continue reading →

One such choice landed us at a spot called Kelly’s Eastside for one of the tastiest sandwiches we have sample in a some time. Perusing the menu, and after sampling the extremely rich crab artichoke dip, we left the selection to our bartender. We were up in the air about a burger or a sandwich. We are always on the hunt for the next best burger, so there is always that bent. And when ordering a burger we generally get it as close to plain as possible for two reasons. First, it just looks better in a photo. And second, you are able to actually taste the burger with out the addition of giant shards of avocado, or spilling in chili.  Continue reading →
