There will be even more of this style of pizza coming, and that is fantastic. We love this, but what are some of the best non-Neapolitan pizzas in the Dallas area? Glad you asked.

Here is a list of a few of our favorites in no particular order. Peruse our list and offer your favorites. And for the best Neapolitan-style pizza? Stay tuned, we are dining out way through that scene as we write.     Continue reading →

Chef Bruno Davaillon Announces New Restaurant in Former Belo Building

bruno

Since the October announcement of Chef Bruno Davaillon’s departure from historic restaurant, The Mansion on Turtle Creek, many have wondered where the notable chef will be serving his acclaimed cuisine next – and most importantly – is he staying in Dallas? To answer the second question first, yes, Chef Davaillon is staying put in his adopted city, but most exciting is that Chef’s new restaurant will be in the currently under construction building 400 Record at 400 S. Record Street in downtown Dallas, formerly known as the Belo Building.

As has been reported, the new owners, the Hartland-Mackie family of City Electric Supply, will be moving their business to the building which will also house other tenants. Chef and the family are partners in the restaurant project which is yet to be named. Details are still being worked out, but the restaurant will be a casual contemporary eatery featuring refined, yet seemingly simply prepared foods using only the finest ingredients; certainly a trademark of Chef Davaillon’s cooking.  Continue reading →

This Monte Cristo Is The Holy Grail Of Plano

holy grailby Steven Doyle

The Monte Cristo is the kissing cousin of the sandwich called the Croque Monsieur.  The Monsieur  is made up of a grilled Gruyere cheese loaded with thin slices of ham and fried in clarified butter. You can find both sandwiches served in and around Dallas with no finer example of the Cristo served at the Holy Grail Pub in Plano. It is a serious sandwich.

The sandwich claims roots dating back to a depression-era dinner staple called a cheese dream and the deep-fried grilled cheeses called “Frenchees” native to Nebraska. Both are deep fried cheese sandwiches, the latter is sometimes dipped in an egg wash then rolled in Corn Flakes. The beautiful sandwich rose to fame  in 1966 when it appeared on the menu at Disney’s Cajun restaurant Blue Bayou, adjacent to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. And certainly we all recall the menu at Bennigan’s where they proudly served up the deep fried sandwich filled with turkey and ham.   Continue reading →

A Knuckle Sandwich From Parigi For The Perfect One-Two Punch

20140803_141405_1by Steven Doyle

Check out the beautiful Knuckle Sandwich from Parigi. This is a cheesy mix of chunky lobster, bacon and scallions atop perfect golden brown and buttery toast. The first bite sends the juicy center down your cheek, and delivers a quick crunchy flavor bomb with the mix of bacon and lobster.

The sidecar of tomato-avocado salad is a perfect accompaniment to this meal, especially if you add a Bloody Mary to the brunch. This Mary comes with her own salad, and is crowned with a crab claw for good measure.    Continue reading →
