The worlds of music and food collide at Deep Ellum’s newest bar and grill. In the space that once occupied Idle Rye, Bitter End serves up a variety of music-inspired cocktails, wings, burgers, and sandwiches. Bitter End also has an oyster bar, a pleasant rarity in Deep Ellum.

Although Bitter End quietly opened in February, the new artsy, funky restaurant celebrated its grand opening this past weekend. Continue reading

Bunnies And Springtime Refresh The Plate

DSC01110by Steven Doyle

As the Easter holiday approaches we are reminded about renewal of the planet, fresh Spring daisies and bluebonnets, little baby chicks and bouncy bunny rabbits.  It is also a refreshing time for new restaurant menus as they roll out seasonal dishes to reflect the new found bounty. We are now seeing ramps, morels and even fiddlehead ferns gracing our plates. This is a fantastic time of year.

We would love to make a list of our favorite deviled eggs, which are everywhere now and a definite taste we want at Easter.  You will see a new version daily at Parigi on Oak Lawn. We also enjoy the deviled eggs at Nick and Sams where there are three versions on the same platter, but particularly enjoy the caviar topped eggs.   Continue reading

Eat Me: Nordstrom’s Crab Mac and Cheese

baz2by Steven Doyle

Most probably do not consider department store dining to be all that exceptional, when in fact we have several hot restaurants tucked away in the back of some of our finer purveyors for skirts and shoes.  We have written about Neiman’s Zodiac more than a few times and they have been treating Dallasites to delicious fare for over 65 years.

Located in NorthPark Center at Nordstrom find a hot little gem called Bazille, which otherwise is known as the grill. There you will find delicious sandwiches, soups, pizzas, roasted fish, steaks and hearty pasta dishes. There are also delicate spa foods to be found for those with lighter appetites.  Continue reading

Chefs Stephan Pyles and Tim Byres Unveil New Programming at Flora Street Cafe

pyles

Chefs Stephan Pyles and Tim Byres of Stephan Pyles Flora Street Café at HALL Arts have unveiled their new plans in the evolution of the iconic Dallas restaurant. Experiential dining offerings include new lunch and dinner programming, a fresh spin on the tasting menu with its own luxury venue, and a brunch menu that has recently launched. The evolvement comes after the December announcement of the collaboration between Chef Stephan Pyles and Chef Tim Byres, formerly of the award-winning restaurant SMOKE.

“I never thought after 35 years of owning restaurants I would be this excited about a new direction,” said Chef Stephan Pyles. We will be able to offer two separate and very different dining experiences. While making the experience in the main dining room less formal, and the menu more “approachable”, we will transition the current private dining room into a “restaurant within a restaurant” with a progressive, innovative 12 course tasting menu”. Press Waffle Co. Founders Granted $300,000 Investment on ‘Shark Tank’

Shark Tank - Bryan and Caleb (Founders).jpegby Alex Gonzalez

The founders of Press Waffle Co. wowed the sharks on this Sunday’s episode of “Shark Tank.” Vying for an investment, brothers Bryan and Caleb Lewis presented their waffle concept before being granted an investment from Barbara Corcoran.

Inspired by his European travels, Bryan Lewis first opened Press Waffle Co. as a food truck, which drove throughout DFW and catered various types of events. Their first permanent outpost opened in Legacy Hall in 2017, where their creations like The House (a Liege style waffle topped with strawberries, nutella, cookie butter and whipped cream) and The Soulman (a Liege style waffle topped with fried chicken, bacon and maple syrup.)
