Mike Anderson’s BBQ is definitely one of our top BBQ haunts in the Dallas area. We know BBQ is so very subjective and everyone has their own idea of how the plate should play out, but when dining on smoked meats we have a few bits of criteria. The meat should be tender, smoky, juicy, and have some sort of interesting characteristic on the outside that compels another bite.

Cuquita’s Cures The Tex Mex Craving

One of our most favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in the Dallas area has always been Cuquita’s, which is located on Josey at Valley View Lane. The unencumbered restaurant has garnered much praise from Texas Monthly and was named one of the top 5 Mexican restaurants in the state. That is large praise, but there are a few reasons why the restaurant is so good.
Cuquita’s is full of freshness. Each day house-made flour and corn tortillas are hand pressed and made alongside tamales which are made with the house masa needed for the tortillas. One bite of the tortillas and you will be hooked. They are sold to go by the dozen, and you will want to pick up a few for dinner or breakfast tacos at home. They are like no other. Continue reading

On any given day when driving past the boutiques lining Oak Lawn in Dallas you will spot plenty of activity. There you will discover hot finds on wine or cheese, or possibly even chocolate. This past Sunday we began the edible bucket list for 2012 and made a stop into Chocolate Secrets.

What are great qualities of a sushi chef? Amiable, imaginative and raw talent are a few things that come to mind. Certainly these words all hold true when describing Master Sushi Chef Hiroyuki “Fuji” Fujino. We might toss in charming for good measure, and perhaps when we sup on the omakase at Five Sixty atop the tower at the Hyatt downtown the master might toss an extra morsel of the good stuff our way.
Omakase is when you trust your sushi chef to plan your meal for you in place of ordering ala carte. You will find the chef more giving in his rarer stock with more visits when the chef starts trusting your palate as much as you trust that he will prepare something hopefully more rare than those around you. Time Is Ticking For Toys For Tots

Every year, Toys for Tots provides toys for children who otherwise wouldn’t have much this holiday season. The need is great. But with a little effort, you can make a big difference in a child’s life. With this year’s deadline for donations coming up on us quickly, and being short on toys this year, help is still needed. Please visit the Toys For Tots website for the locations still receiving donations. Be nimble, be quick and bring some cheer to a child’s Christmas.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October – December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.
