Celebrate Fearing’s Fifth Anniversary

When A Bartender Becomes A Gentleman Farmer

Rocco Milano has pulled a Green Acres on us. Milano is the engaging barmen at Private Social and until recently he lived very close to the Uptown restaurant where he works. Now his commute is a bit longer as he drives in from his 60-acre farm in Valley View just north of Denton.

“Yesterday I spent about 10 hours digging and dropping in a bunch of fruit bearing trees. I have a bunch of berry shrubs I am putting in next. I have this spectacular herb garden. Right now the chocolate mint is flourishing like you can’t imagine,” said Milano, “How cool is that to see these plants grow from a seed and take them to the final product?”

Celebrate Common Table’s 2nd Anniversary With A Beer

Stop by and wish the good folks at Common Table a happy birthday this weekend as they stroke the two year mark. There will be plenty of rare brews and live music to help celebrate.

Goodbye Nana

In preparation for this weekend’s closing of Nana located in the Hilton Anatole, guests were invited for a mixer hosted by the hotel and restaurant staff to reminisce and celebrate the many years of service. Present were a handful of Nana’s past executive chefs who peppered conversation with interesting and historic anecdotes.

Thomas Welther, the hotel’s executive chef, was excited for the future of the space and explained that retooling to the Sēr concept was actually a positive move for the hotel restaurant. At first glance the thought of the beautiful and venerable Nana morphing into a steakhouse seems undignified. But as the chef explained, the staff and tools wouldn’t change all that much. Many of the techniques currently used will carry over to Sēr. In other words, it will not just be about the beef.   Continue reading

Meet Central 214’s Lead Bartender Amber West

As we have reported in the past, changes have occurred at Central 214 with the addition of Graham Dodds in the kitchen bringing his own remarkable spin on the farm to table cooking. Along with his wonderful menu (and we take a look at the latest incarnation of this menu early next week) Dodds  also recruited a special bartender, Amber West.

West comes from an incredible culinary family. You may recognize her brother Adam West most recently at ZaZa’s Dragonfly in Dallas, and since promoted as the executive chef at Monarch in Houston. Both siblings in the West family appreciate farm fresh ingredients and seek them out with enthusiasm.    Continue reading

We have been touting this weekend’s Margarita Meltdown (Sunday, May 27th, 3pm) with vigor for a few reasons. Besides the fact we are sponsors of the event, we also happen to enjoy a fantastic margarita.

You can prepare for this event tonight by stopping in one of the many participating bars or restaurants. The list of participants is growing with lightening fast momentum. If you are a bartender in Dallas, Texas and can’t make a decent margarita perhaps it is time to select another industry.
