Win Dinner For Two At Del Frisco

by Crave Staff

Del Frisco is definitely a Dallas institution and they have been on our radar since the playful sommelier Jennifer Jaco started working there just over one month ago.  But before Jaco’s arrival we alwayed enjoyed chatting with chef David Holben who’s home kitchen is the Dallas location on Spring Valley.

Holben has come up with a summer promotion that should bring most beef lovers into the restaurant and it is a steal.  They call this the Power Couple menu and there are more than a few great choices in sides and such, but always includes a filet and crab cake. For $99.   Continue reading

Earlier this week we got a quote from chef Richard Chamberlain saying he was going to New York City to win a little grilling contest, competing with regional winners from across the country and sponsored by Kingsford. Well, he did.  Welcome back chef Richard Chamberlain and his giant Texas-sized check.    Continue reading

P.F. Chang’s Subject To Leveraged Buyout

By Judy Chamberlain

In what will be the largest leveraged buyout of a restaurant chain since the 2010 transaction that brought a $4.2 billion price tag to Burger King holdings, P .F. Chang’s China Bistro is scheduled to be taken private in mid-June when private equity firm Centerbridge Partners pays P. F. Chang’s shareholders $51.50 a share in a  $1.1 billion deal.

The chain, founded by Paul Fleming chef Philip Chiang, first opened in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1993, offering Western-influenced Asian food at reasonable prices. It owns numerous company stores in the United States and sells licensing agreements in international markets. Fast-casual Pei Wei’s Asian Diner, which originated in Dallas, is part of the mix.    Continue reading

Bailey’s New Menu Really Works

by Steven Doyle       photos by Rod  Orta

Just last week we shared some information on how the new menu was being worked at Bailey’s Prime Plus and today we have more insight, plus news on several of the locations around DFW.

As avid readers might be aware, the Nosh team of Avner Samuels and Jon Stevens have been working with the Bailey’s group to fine tune the menu. In the past weeks they have actually revamped the offerings to the point that business has improved legions over what had been expected in the past. Last evening we stopped in for a tasting as invited guests of the management. What we found was simply nothing short of miraculous.         Continue reading

by Jerry Stewart

For those with a foodie type of bucket list, there are more than a few hot events that should top that list. Certainly Terlingua Chili Cook-off, WurstFest in New Braunfels, the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival and Hico’s Texas Steak Cook-off,  if the latter has escaped your radar check out scenes from the annual event here.

The event, which is held Saturday, May 19th, 2012 this year,  has been covered annually by the Food Network and is the largest steak cook-off in the Southwest, drawing thousands of tourists from all over the country. Rockwall Makes Damned Good Burgers

by Steven Doyle

I was at a dinner party earlier this week and the subject of burgers hit the table. This was when I noticed the couple sitting across from me grab their cell phones to take notes.

I mentioned that I conducted a burger tour in Dallas and hit some pretty awesome spots. They wanted details.  I told them Rockwall seemed to be the home of some tremendous burgers. My little tour started in Rockwall at Boots Burger, the odd burger Mecca that is run out of a home in a residential neighborhood since 1968.  I stated that while you order from a walk up window, the neighbors are going about their business in a nonchalant manner; mowing their laws and trimming hedges, while young children dance about in a sprinkler. It’s an awesome burger for less than three bucks.      Continue reading

Build A Better Burger And Kenny Will Pay You

by Steven Doyle

Let me start by saying I really like Kenny Bowers. First, the guy can cook. That’s a fairly important point when you are a chef. Second, the guy is outrageous. Great combination. Kenny doesn’t take himself too seriously and has a lot of fun with his burger joint up in Frisco.

It’s pretty nifty that you can buy a single rib for one dollar, which comes from a Chris Rock line in the film I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. This is also the spot where you can buy a 7 pounder that is a burger loaded with 7,000 calories, and can actually feed 20 people — or one really hungry hombre. Last week Kenny announced a dinosaur-sized hot dog.     Continue reading

Penfolds Wine Dinner At Ruth’s Chris Steak House

by Judy Chamberlian

I was invited to experience the US and World release of the new vintage Grange wine at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Dallas as the famed eatery put on a spectacular five course food and wine pairing show featuring the wines of Penfolds and the culinary artistry of Executive Chef Charles Miller.

As we all know, everything is big in Texas, and the steaks at Ruth’s Chris might well have been invented to suit that phrase. Actually, the restaurant chain – now one of the largest and most successful inAmerica– got its start in New Orleans in 1965 when founder Ruth Fertel mortgaged her house to buy an existing local eatery, Chris Steak House. The deal specified that the word “Chris” could never be dropped, so Ruth added her name and – though she is said to have hated the cumbersome moniker – went on to earn a place in history as a steakhouse pioneer. Today, the restaurant empire she founded numbers more than 100 locations worldwide.       Continue reading
