Hilton Anatole’s SĒR is Officially Open

We have followed the SĒR construction and menu development since the closing of iconic Nana just a few short months ago (here and here ). Many were saddened by the closure, but had those same people visited Nana more than once a year as a special ocassion restautrant, it would still be open. Thus the nature of economics.

SĒR is the first of a ration of restaurants premiering in the month of October, and this quick multi-million dollar facelift will soon prove to be one of the new gems sprouting from the restaurant role of 2012.

New Restaurant and New Chef Announced at Luxe Stoneleigh

by Steven Doyle

We reported several months ago that the Stoneleigh Hotel is now Luxe Stoneleigh, and with that has undergone some needed changes at the hotel to the tune of $36 million dollars. The Stoneleigh has been a Dallas landmark since 1923 and has enjoyed a marvelous history.

This weekend we learned that there are more changes afoot at the Stoneleigh as their restaurant Bolla is phased out to make way for Texas-inspired cuisine in the new T/X Restaurant and Bar. Marcelo Vasquez was named executive chef just days ago. Vasquez was the executive chef at the Omni Fort Worth for the past five years and has a marvelous culinary background starting in his home country, Chile.   Continue reading →

Still Celebrities After All These Years

By Judy Chamberlain

Southlake’s ladies-who-lunch, take note: Bill and Barbara Harris have opened Silver Spoon Cafe and Bakery in Southlake. It’s located just off Southlake Boulevard near Timarron Country Club; look for the hot pink awnings and hot pink umbrellas. Bill and Barbara, who were the founders and original owners of the Celebrity Cafe mini-chain (there’s one in Highland Park Village), have created an inviting space.

The cafe does not offer table service, so you have to get in line to order, then help yourself utensils, napkins and the beverages you’ve purchased. The food, which can take a while to arrive, will be brought to your table. Breakfast service begins at 8 a.m., and the rest of the menu is lunch-oriented. Continue reading →

Sneak Peek at TJ’s New Market on Oak Lawn

by Steven Doyle

We stopped in TJ’s Seafood Market’s newest venture located on Oak Lawn next to Julian Barsotti’s Carbone’s and just feet away from Nosh. TJ’s is owned by Jon and Natlie Alexis and together they have been planning this new concept for the past three years. They will not only have great seafood with an even larger selection than their original store located on Preston at Forest Lane in North Dallas, but will also feature a 24-seat restaurant.

Alexis says he does not want to be in the restaurant business, but rather offer fresh selections culled from the new seafood cases and will be offering chef-driven menu items that will include fish tacos, lobster rolls and full plated meals. To execute the restaurant portion of the market Alexis hired chef Scott Hoffner who ws most recently executive chef at Flippin’ Out Crepes.      Continue reading →

Joie de Vivre: Uchi is Opening in Dallas

by Robyn Folmar

I was in Austin this weekend for the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival and couldn’t pass up an opportunity to finally try Uchi.

The sake apparently went straight to my husband’s head because he insisted on the ten-course Chef’s tasting menu. Normally this tough guy dry heaves at the very thought of eating Aquaman’s sea friends. His principles were quickly jettisoned as we fought over the last raw oyster with honeycrisp apple sorbet and wasabi foam.     Continue reading →
