Lighter fare prepared with the same elegance as the dinner menu, has been added by Executive Chef Jason Maddy and his team. Maddy explains, “The new menu is representative of the seasons and availability from our purveyors and small farms. A Visit To Four Corners Brewing Company
The brew news is at a fever pitch this week. Today I was on an exclusive tour through the Trinity Groves and decided to check out the progress of the soon to open Four Corners Brewing Company where I found owner John Sims hard at work cleaning kegs and otherwise waiting for bureaucracy to lend its hand at finalizing his legal permits to operate and produce his first batch of beer at 423 Singleton.
When I entered the brewery that is still under construction I met up with Sims who happened to be chatting with Franconia Brewery owner, Dennis Wehrmann. Continue reading

One On One With Monica Greene
Monica Greene has been busier than ever. On the heels of opening up her fast and casual BEE (Best Enchilada Ever) in Bishop Arts and walking away from her name sake Monica’s Aca y Alla in Deep Ellum (now Maracas Mexican Restaurant), she is days away from opening up her latest concept, Monica’s Nueva Cocina and ME Lounge at Illume on Cedar Springs.
The new Nueva Cocina is all about her latest take on the fresh flavors of Mexico City with authentic house-made moles, fresh tortillas from stone ground corn and seasonal dishes that she plans to change with the seasons. This all originated after a sabbatical in Aspen where she ran a vegetarian restaurant and looked after her health, often walking miles each day in the mountains and losing 30 pounds.
Monica told us yesterday that she had to make a decision to come back to Dallas to be with her grandchild and take care of her house which had been empty for the past three years. And to open Nueva Cocina which she feels is a proper concept for these times. Continue reading

When we visited the ice cream parlor it was standing room only, and not much real estate to stand on. This obvious makes Hussain a happy man. Continue reading

Nothing satisfies more than a hearty slice of mom’s apple pie. Well, for me it was cherry, but you get the idea. This weekend I ran across a pie shop that simply blew me away. Not only with their wonderful and innovative take on pie, but with their delightful, homey service. Continue reading

July Roundup: Lovin’ the Third Degree
by Dr. Spin
On Tuesday, I am going to aikido summer camp to take my third degree black belt (sandan) test. In my organization, sandan is the last rank that a student can test for. Further promotions only occur through recommendation. This is, essentially, my last test.
Of course, I want it to be representative of the work I have put in and respectful of tradition, so this month has been somewhat consumed with preparations. My idea of what that means, however, has changed over the years. Bob is watching you even at the Pharmacy…
