Friday’s Five Fabulous Food Finds

Each week we scour the city in search of the very best Dallas has to offer. We check into restaurants both old and new looking for interesting food to discuss with you so you can make handy decision when dining out.

ZaZa’s Dragonfly New Spring Menu, Plus Several Changes

A graduate of California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, chef Dan Landsberg first moved to Dallas in 1996 when we was sent to open Fog City Diner, the stand-out building where Truluck’s now operates from. From Fog City Landsberg had a stint at Toscana where he worked with several other local chefs including Gilbert Garza (now owner of Suze) and David Holben (now corporate executive chef with the Del Frisco brand).

Several moves later including a run as executive chef at Stephan Pyles and the man responsible for revamping Tillman’s Roadhouse, Landsberg is using his vast imagination at ZaZa’s Dragonfly. There Landsberg has a creative outlet that flourishes and changes with each season.         Continue reading

Benefit For Andrew Lostetter

Andrew Lostetter has been a bartender in the Dallas area for over fourteen years; he has grown as a barmen moving from Consilient (Fireside Pies on Henderson and Sense) to join the team at Neighborhood Services Tavern, then on to The Marquee Grill in Highland Park Village. Andrew has been on the forefront of the cocktail movement in Dallas and has frequently been seen shaking cocktails for various charities around Dallas, including Bar 828 in Oak Cliff, and the HID IN pop-up bar that had a brief stint in Deep Ellum.

Recently Andrew experienced an epic ski accident that left him with a fractured pelvis in four places, dislocated sacrum from his pelvis and fractured two of his vertebrae.  Two surgeries later Andrew is back in Dallas undergoing further treatment.    Continue reading

Southern Breeze Market Café: First Look

Melody and Daniel Fitzgerald, who also own the nearby Sugar & Frosting cupcake emporium, have opened Southern Breeze Market Café in Old Town Keller.

Inspired by restaurants along the Carolina coasts, this Breeze offers seasonal “Carolina Chic,” comfort food enlivened by a modern-day culinary flair. The Fitzgeralds bring an understanding of incorporating farm-fresh ingredients into their offerings, and bring an impressive combined culinary pedigree to their newest endeavor.

“We wanted Southern Breeze to be all of our favorite restaurants, rolled into one,” says Melody Fitzgerald, who served as pastry chef at The Mansion on Turtle Creek, working directly for of James Wagner and Dean Fearing. Her husband Daniel, who honed his high-end fine dining skills working at luxury hotels in Maine, Colorado, North Carolina and Texas, agrees.   Continue reading

Celebrate Earth Day With A Fun Run

Celebrate Mother Earth on her day, April 22, 2012.  Join the huddled masses as they enjoy the DFW Farm Truck 5k Fun Run at Fair Park with a 7:30am registration time and an 8:30am start.

Along the course of the run you will be met with a short list of obstacles including a Worm Challenge and later a Bee Challenge. The DFW Farm Truck will be on display as well.  This is the handy roving educational farm truck that makes its way across several North Texas Counties educating enthusiasts and students alike on the values of farming.         Continue reading

Which Dallas Restaurateur Is Running For US Senate? Meet John Jay Myers

You might have met John Jay Myers, he is the guy who owns the Deep Ellum lounge with the Cajun twist The Free Man. He also runs a screen printing company called ClearSky24 and manages several of his own properties. In addition to all this you might often catch him on a Sunday evening sitting in on a few sets with his drum kit and cigar in tow.
