Wicked Po Boy Opening This Week

by Crave Staff

Inspired by the distinct flavors of New Orleans cuisine, husband and wife team, Joey Le and Lan Chi Le will open their first fast-casual concept, Wicked Po’Boys, in Richardson this Wednesday, June 27th.

After moving to Dallas, Chi realized how much she missed the authentic, hole-in-the wall po’boys during her college studies in New Orleans. The couple began working on recipes and sketching ideas for a restaurant. They eventually hired Plan B Group (Royce Ring and Alex Urrunaga) to assist them in defining the concept and Gin Braverman of Gin Designs to consult on design.                  Continue reading →

Rumor Mill: Neighborhood Services Tavern To Become Off-Site Kitchen

by Steven Doyle

Word on the street is that the Neighborhood Services Tavern on Henderson will become the next Off-Site Kitchen.  Chef-Owner Nick Badovinus has been coy about the supposed remodel, but the old sign is down and work is on the way.

Makes sense to us.

Stoneleigh Goes Luxe

by Jayne Chobot

Yesterday Dallas’ The Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa joined CAM Hospitality Management, Luxe Hotels representatives and community leaders to celebrate the re-branding of the landmark property as Luxe Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa.

After the celebratory ribbon-cutting, the hotel’s lobby centerpiece Bolla Bar served beautiful complimentary cranberry and raspberry cocktails, and Executive Chef Cesar Gallegos and his team dished out small plates of Texas beef brisket and seared scallops with smoked cheddar grits to delighted guests of the event. Tours of the stunning and opulent suites with magnificent architecture and breathtaking views of downtown Dallas were provided on request. As an event planner and an on-the-hunt bride, I was really impressed with the offerings and style of this legendary landmark.   Continue reading →

Scott Reitz Made Us Giggle

by Steven Doyle

The Observer’s food guru Scott Reitz Tweets like a mad man, something I am terrible at probably because I would rather eat that cheeseburger than Tweet about the damned thing. But I know he has a great sense of humor and today Tweeted a link to something that made me choke on the very same cheeseburger.  Continue reading →

by Steven Doyle

Although a bit hot this has been a terrific week of dining in Dallas. We go eclectic on you today, even though we did have our share of pork belly and foie gras. This should ultimately prove we are not food snobs.

We will take in our fair share of lamb belly or kani-miso, but every day we look to the burger and the illustrious taco to fit the bill. Ride along with us as we check out five of the best things we ate this week.     Continue reading →

The Road To San Antone: Czech Stop

by Robert Bostick
The wife had a conference in San Antonio and it was decided that we’d make it a family affair so we loaded up the KIA and headed South, and thought it might be interesting to document some of the stops along the way.
Anytime (and I mean every time) we drive up or down  the I-35 corridor there is the obligatory pullover at that Capitol of Kolaches in West, TX known as the Czech Stop.  Since 1983 this deli-bakery-Shell station has been crankingout Czechoslovakian goodness that has six hundred travelers daily taking exit 353 to fill their tanks and their bellies.

Happy Hour At Sissy’s Is Southern Fried Fun

by Steven Doyle

Happy hour yesterday was all about Sissy’s Southern Kitchen and Bar as the staff there rolled out their new cocktail menu. Big hits for the night included the Tea Thyme  which is made up of Belvedere Lemon Tea Vodka, Thyme, Lemon Tea Vodka, Lemon and Honey, and the Colonel Sanders which is a healthy dose of Maker’s 46, Benedictine and Orange Bitters.

Tea Thyme is a sweeter concoction, but still a heady cocktail that creeps up on the unsuspecting soul. The Colonel Sanders is plucking good and stops you in your tracks with a smooth finish. The colonel himself would order at least three.           Continue reading →
