Al Biernat’s Celebrating Mac & Cheese Day

Mac and Cheese lovers – rejoice! Wednesday, July 14 marks National Macaroni and Cheese Day, and Dallasites can celebrate the cheesy, warm holiday with famous steakhouse Al Biernat’s and their signature Mac & Cheese comfort dish.

Available at both the Al Biernat’s North and Oak Lawn locations, the decadent Mac & Cheese dish includes a mix of signature cheeses topped with crunchy breadcrumbs to create a gooey, savory treat perfect for sharing or not sharing. The gourmet side dish starts at $12 and for an additional cost, guests can choose to elevate the creamy pasta dish with three ounces of fresh lobster meat.

Al’s signature Mac & Cheese makes for the perfect side dish to compliment one of the restaurant’s famous meat or seafood entrees. The chefs at Al’s suggest trying their famous side dish alongside their Filet Mignon, Prime Rib or Crab Stuffed Lemon Sole, served with sautéed spinach and lobster butter sauce.

Ocean Prime Still in its Prime

by Joey Stewart photos by Joey Stewart

The last time CraveDFW featured Ocean Prime we showcased the huge Red King Crab legs that had just been flown in from Bristol Bay. As this was over two years ago, we thought it was time to head back and see how it’s keeping up with all the competing seafood spots that have opened in Dallas since that report.

Ocean Prime Uptown is one of sixteen locations across the states and boasts a menu that features items like sushi and poke, indulgent seafood entrees, prime steaks, desserts, signature cocktails, and a Wine Spectator-honored wine list.

The dark, retro dining room is still packed with well-heeled guests, the service is stellar from start to finish, and each dish we tasted was expertly cooked. In short, it hasn’t missed a step. We chose to sit in the more relaxed and bright “Terrace,” which allows for a casual dining experience.

Adelmo’s Still Strong and Thriving After All These Years

adelmo1.jpgby Steven Doyle

For over 30 years Adelmo Banchetti has been filling the hearts and bellies of Dallasites at his iconic Knox area restaurant Adelmo’s, now located to Inwood Village. The man remains a stalwart in the industry whose name is instantly recognizable for great food, greater portions with an easy going price tag that has guests returning again and again.

Adelmo was born to serve in the restaurant industry beginning at 16 years old when he moved from Florence, Italy to Brussels to bus tables for a decade, moving to work cruise ships and eventually settling at Cornell University for formal training. Moving to Dallas proved his greatest effort working at restaurant luminaries such as Villa Buggati, the Pyramid Room at the Fairmont, the illustrious Beau Nash, and the Mansion on Turtle Creek before opening his eponymous Adelmo’s in 1989.  Continue reading

Best Chef Burgers in Dallas

Dallas  has no shortage of the delicacy that is a burger.  What makes a perfect burger is the flavor of the beef, and freshness of the bun, and toppings. A burger should develop a nice sear to trap all the juices inside. Pressing a burger releases all of its flavor and makes the burger dry and ends up crumbling. The toppings are just as important as the cooking process. Using fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions help bring a crisp texture and flavor depth that makes your burger scream fresh.

To add more depth a spread or sauce needs to compliment the other toppings without making the burger too messy or all you have is a excessive use of napkins. Innovative burger toppings just makes the flavor depth more interesting you just need to keep them in check because there is such a thing as “too much of a good thing.” Continue reading
