Closings: Fat Chicken Trinity Groves

One of our very favorite chicken restaurants in Dallas has shuttered. Fat Chicken has suffered from a spiraling lack of guests in the Trinity Groves leading to their demise.

The press release stated: “Fat Chicken offered Chef DJ Quintanilla’s distinctive take on all things chicken—southern fried with biscuits, oven roasted, grilled, pot pies and even ‘chickarrones’—as well as an old-fashioned pie cart with a daily selection of scratch-made pies”. Continue reading

Union Bear Opens in Plano

Union Bear Brewing, the highly anticipated brewery and restaurant from {33} Restaurant Group is now open at The Boardwalk in Granite Park (5880 State Highway 121).  Plano’s first independent brewpub and restaurant is now serving dinner daily beginning at 4pm and will add lunch hours beginning at 11am on January 8.

Inspired by the West Coast casual beer approach, onsite brewers craft Union Bear’s signature line of brews including UB Blonde, Amber, White IPA and Stout as well as 33 featured taps, extensive bar offerings, hand selected whiskies and wine list with offerings available by the glass or bottle.   Continue reading

Taqueria Cristina Surprises The Hell Out Of Me

I had to stop in Taqueria Cristina this week if for no other reason than to sample their black bean dip served with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are forgettable, but they are more than redeemed once you sample the very spicy and very smoky salsa; but oh that black bean dip. It is not thick or chunky, but instead smooth and velvety with a huge power punch of flavor.    Continue reading

Eat Me: The Hot Dog at Bowl and Barrel

The hot dog has fallen on hard times in Dallas. What was once the sweetheart of the rodeo with locations across town where you could get a good meaty custom dog, now it is a bit dodgy. With the loss of some wonderful dogs, such as Luscher’s, Samson’s, Jerry’s, and Old World Sausage Company, There is still a terrific stand-out in Bowl and Barrel.   Continue reading

New Years Eve is definitely the spark that lights the path for the upcoming year and 2018 will definitely be one for the record book. Look for bright food trends and amazing new restaurants that will be serving more plant-based proteins, bold ethnic flavors and street food, greater emphasis on both children’s meals (definitely untapped in Dallas) and breakfast, under-utilized meats and vegetables, offal and of course the burger will take an even stronger hold on the city.
