Hibiscus Chamomile- A Flowery Transfusion Like No Other

cocktailby Mary Szefcyk

There truly is an art form to craft of hand Spirits and the Dallas Cocktail Culture scene is up and coming.  We are fortunate to have so many adventurous places that showcase original cocktails. It’s not just a mere drink its character in a glass that needs to make a statement and should not be taken for granted. It was charming to find such a unique blend on my recent night out jaunt.  I had the pleasure of letting down my hair taking in Urban art and live music performed by a local band (We’ve Come For Your Daughter) a hip hop/synth pop group releasing my inner-punk while frolicking with friends and making new ones near and behind the bar.   Continue reading →

TJ’s Goes French For A Night

10 Jon starts off the night with a lovely Pepiere Muscadetby Joey Stewart

Ever since opening his Oak Lawn location in 2012, TJ’s Fresh Seafood Market has been hosting specialty dinners that feature seafood prepared in worldly ways and paired with wines of that region. Tuesday evening owner and purveyor Jon Alexis threw a French Style seven-course dinner to an excited and eager full house.

For each course Jon described the wine pairing, while Executive Chef Scott Hoffner discussed the ingredients and execution of the dish.  A main supplier of TJ’s, whose Red Grouper was featured in the 3rd course, was on site to tell the diners how Jon decides what fish to select (Jon can be quite picky), the state of sustainability in our oceans today, and the unique fish that often get thrown away in the U.S. while it is considered a delicacy (and pricey!) overseas.  Continue reading →

Back Away From The Tex-Mex At Lazaranda

lazarandaby Robyn Folmar

I’ve stated before that Texans like their Tex-Mex two ways, orange & brown. We will eat a slab of beef for breakfast and wrap anything in a tortilla and call it a meal. However, this leads to some problems when you are a bona fide Mexican restaurant and want to serve… seafood.

People get confused, agitated. “Where are the fajitas?” “I don’t understand why this rice is white.” “Can you fry this?”  Continue reading →

Red Arrow Contemporary Layeredby Erica Guajardo

On Saturday, February 23rd, the Design District plays host to its “Gallery Walk”.  For those that have not participated in this event I would like to suggest you make it out this Saturday.  This particular event is where the local galleries on Dragon Street open their doors from 5-9, depending on the gallery, and feature some of the leading artist locally, nationally, and internationally.  Most exhibitions turn every six weeks and open the viewer’s eye to what is grabbing the attention in the art world.  CraveDFW will be on site every walk, featuring an insight on some of the best galleries on Dragon Street.  We are featuring three new galleries in our very special “Gallery Walk Edition”.  Continue reading →

Guy Got Punked

guy1by Steven Doyle

Guy Fieri is a very easy target. This is the same Guy who opened up his new restaurant recently to crazy reviews gaining national attention for serving up horrific food in what is now dubbed as the “Ed Hardy District” of New York, or otherwise known as Times Square.  This is also the same Fieri restaurant that Anthony Bourdain dubbed as a “terror dome”, whatever that might be. Even Uncle Nancy hated the place.

Mr. Fieri is back in the news today after a person of genius registered the domain name guysamericankitchenandbar.com and went on a rampage with a fake menu for the restaurant. Guy’s real domain name for Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar is  guysamerican.com.

The fake Fieri site lists some entertaining dining options such as Guy’s Big Balls which is a 4 pound ball of Rice-A-Roni encrusted mozzarella served with a side of Guy’s Signature Cadillac Cream Sauce and maximum well-done duck skin.

Other fake favorites include the Hobo Lobo Bordello Slam Jam which is 38-ounces of super-saddened  Cheez gutted wolf meat. That appetizer will set you back fifty bucks, but it feeds a whole crowd of hipsters.

Jump with us to witness what happens when you do not register alternative names for your restaurant and you happen to be Guy Fieri.  Continue reading →
